💡 Highlights

  • Introduced in 2023, the Rainbow Six Ranked 2.0 ranking system separates visible ranks (progression during the season) and MMR (hidden skill-based matchmaking rating).
  • Players must reach level 50 in casual modes to access Ranked games.
  • The R6 rank distribution is from Copper V to Champions, with subdivisions (V-I) for most tiers.
  • All players start each season at Copper V, with ranks resetting every 3 months.

Rainbow Six Siege has been on the market for about 9 years and is not giving up its position or losing relevance. Ubisoft supports the game not only with new content but also with improvements. In addition, players who like to play on mobile phones will soon be pleased with the release of a mobile version of R6. The developers also completely redesigned the matchmaking system and called it Ranked 2.0. So, I suggest we dive into the nuances of the Rainbow Six Siege ranks in this guide.

About Rainbow Six Siege Ranking System

There are two types of R6 ranks: a visible rank and a hidden rank, or MMR.

Visible rank is your progression during the season. You start with Copper V, and by winning ranked games, you grow to Champions, receiving rewards depending on your rank. At the beginning of a new season, the R6 ranks are reset, and you start your rank progression again. When selecting players in the lobby, the visible rank is not taken into account.

MMR is a parameter hidden from players, which is a set of different indicators determining a player’s skill. This parameter is used when players search for co-op matches. The game tries to select players in the lobby with approximately the same MMR parameter.

What Is R6 Ranked 2.0?

In 2023, Ubisoft reworked matchmaking in Rainbow Six Siege to more accurately match players based on their real skill in the game. The new R6 ranking system was called Ranked 2.0. The main change was that now MMR is a hidden parameter from the player. All players start the same way from the very initial rank of Copper V. Players are matched based on MMR, which characterizes their real skill rating, and thus, in one lobby, there can be players of different ranks. Still, they will always be approximately the same skill level.

All Rainbow Six Siege Ranks In Order

The Rainbow Six Siege ranks are divided into 8 tiers, with Copper V being the starting tier and Champions being the highest, which is very difficult to achieve. Less than 1% of all R6 players have this status. The first seven R6 ranks are divided into five levels, with V being the starting rank and I being the highest. There are no levels for the Champions rank. Players start with Copper V, which has 1-100 RP, and the maximum Champions rank requires around 5,000 RP. You earn rank points by winning games and killing opponents to climb the ladder, and MMR affects how much RP a player gains or loses at the end of a match. Here are all R6 ranks in order:

CopperV-I
BronzeV-I
SilverV-I
GoldV-I
PlatinumV-I
EmeraldV-I
DiamondV-I

What Ranks Can Play Together In Rainbow Six Siege?

Since the Rainbow Six Siege ranks no longer determine the skill of the player, there are no restrictions on the ranks that can play together. Conventionally, one lobby can have both Copper and Gold players. The only thing to remember is that if you play with friends whose skill is objectively much higher than yours, the game will try to balance the lobby and add players with the same high skill as you. Though Rainbow Six Siege is a cross-platform game, its crossplay has restrictions, so you should be aware of them if you play with friends.

How Does R6 Ranking System Work Exactly?

Rainbow Six Siege uses the SBMM system for matchmaking in the lobby, meaning that players are matched based on their skill, which MMR determines. All players start from the lowest rank, earn RP for victories, and move up the ladder during the season. At the end of the season, the ranks are reset, and at the beginning of the new season, rewards are awarded for all divisions that the player has advanced through during the previous season. Then, in the new season, all players start over. The MMR does not reset, as does the visible rank with the onset of a new season.

Ranked Matchmaking

The new R6 ranking system is way better because it actually takes players’ skill levels into account. The old system had a lot of mismatches, with players of very different levels thrown together in the same lobby. Now, with the updated Rainbow Six Siege ranking system, everyone has about the same chance of winning since MMR (Matchmaking Rating) looks at different factors to really measure how good they are. This means when you jump into a lobby, you’ll be there with players with reaction times and accuracy that are closer to yours.

In Rainbow Six Siege, SBMM is used to search for lobbies of any games, not just ranked, so the player will have a hidden MMR from the first matches. Based on this, the game will select other players for them in the lobby. MMR will also affect how much RP they will receive or lose in ranked matches in Rainbow Six Siege, thus affecting their seasonal progression.

Level Requirements

To gain access to ranked games, you first need to reach level 50 by playing the ordinary placement matches. Then, you will have access to the ranked mode and gradually begin to climb the ladder, starting from Copper V and up to Champions.

Ranks Reset

Each season in R6 usually lasts 3 months. All players start from the initial rank and move up the ladder, and at the end of the season, all R6 ranks are reset.

Rewards And Charms

Players receive season rewards at the start of a new season for each division they have completed, up until the final division they are in when the season ends. Rainbow Six Siege has many different rewards – weapon skins, charms, Card Backgrounds, and reward packs called Alpha Packs that contain random skins or charms.

How To Start Playing Ranked In R6?

Once you have reached level 50 in Rainbow Six Siege, you can activate Ranked mode as follows:

  1. Launch the game.

  2. Open the World Map.

  3. Find your next challenge icon.

  4. Press the Ranked button (left stick on controllers, R on keyboard) to activate Ranked mode.

How To Rank Up Quickly?

To grow your rank in Siege, you’ve got to win ranked games. I’ve put together a few easy tips that can boost your chances of coming out on top. And remember, the more you practice, the better you’ll get!

Communicate Constantly With Teammates

Take the time to build a match strategy with your team before the game. During the match, use voice chat not to yell at your teammates but to convey information accurately and concisely. Voice chat really helps a lot in competitive games like R6 and Overwatch, so make sure to use a good one. The GameTree platform has a low-latency, built-in voice chat that works perfectly!

Know Your Maps

From my own experience, I can say that Rainbow Six Siege is one of those games where detailed knowledge of the R6 ranked maps is even more important than good aim. Knowing every shooting spot, what positions the enemy occupies on the map, how to correctly place protective devices at each location – all this can compensate for your lack of reaction.

Support Teammates Over Seeking Kills

Use your operator’s abilities wisely to grow your rank in Rainbow Six Siege. Many of them are good at reconnaissance and support. You may not fire a single shot in a round, but with good reconnaissance and informing your team, you can gain the upper hand over your opponent. Of course, there is always a desire to max out your kill count, but in the long run, this will not work, especially against experienced players.

Coordinate Operator Picks

All agents in R6 have unique abilities and tools, and the match’s success depends on a well-chosen team composition. Study all the agents, which of them are in the current meta, how they are combined in compositions, and on which maps they are used. You should have several agents which you will master, but you should also know all the heroes well and how they act on the battlefield.

Take Breaks After Losses

When you’re playing competitive games, you eventually hit a point where you just get tired. You start making silly mistakes or end up on a losing streak, which only brings down your R6 rank and puts everyone in a bad mood. So, take a break! Don’t keep pushing yourself; take some time to do something else and recharge.

Final Thoughts

Rainbow Six Siege has carved out its own niche and has unique and interesting gameplay. The updated ranking system in Rainbow Six Siege requires players to cooperate and communicate well, as well as know the maps and pick operators wisely if they want to quickly advance through the ranks. In this article, I shed light on the ranked system in Rainbow Six Siege and gave some recommendations. And don’t forget: skill does not come without practice!

Rainbow Six Siege Mobile Release Date And Time

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Mobile was announced in 2022. The developers have already held a closed beta testing with plans to release the game in the fall of 2024, but they said that they need more time for the game to meet players’ expectations. Therefore, the Rainbow Six Siege Mobile release date was postponed to 2025. Boy, 2025 is going to be a year of great mobile releases with R6 and Valorant Mobile Releases.

At the same time, Rainbow Six Mobile is currently in the soft launch phase and is available to gamers in Canada and Mexico. Users from these countries are already sharing their impressions on Reddit and saying that R6 Mobile is the best FPS shooter ported to mobile devices. Well, I can’t wait to see it for myself!

Beta Version Of The Game

The first closed beta took place on September 12, 2022. Then, the developers held another closed beta on April 24, 2023. In both cases, a very limited number of countries participated in the betas. The game is currently in active development with a soft launch in Canada and Mexico.

How To Play R6 Mobile Right Now?

If you don’t live in Canada or Mexico but want to play Rainbow Six Mobile right now, you can do so, and it doesn’t require a plane ticket to one of these countries. For iOS users, all you need to do is change your region. So, here’s how to get R6 mobile to your iPhone:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name, then tap Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region.

Development Issues And Reason For The Delay

The developers did not mention any specific reason why Rainbow Six Siege Mobile was postponed for another year. Ubisoft just mentioned in its report that the development team wants to make sure that the game will meet the requirements and expectations of players. I do not see much intrigue or mystery here. Most likely, this is exactly how it is in reality – the game is almost ready, as evidenced by the soft launch in Canada and Mexico. The developers just need more time to catch bugs and make sure that the servers are stable, which is critical for competitive games.

Will Rainbow Six Mobile Have Crossplay With Other Platforms?

There was no official answer from the developers regarding whether there will be crossplay with other platforms. Most likely, there will be no cross-platform play since this is a separate game developed specifically for mobile devices. Thus, crossplay in Rainow Six Siege will imply separate lobbies for consoles, PCs, and mobile devices.

Rainbow Six Mobile Differences From The PC And Console Versions

Rainbow Six Siege Mobile will be very similar to the original version for consoles and PC in terms of gameplay mechanics. However, the mobile version is expected to feature simplified graphics with lower resolutions for destructions and map adaptations. Also, at least at launch, the number of maps and the operator roster will be limited compared to the PC/console version.

While you are waiting for the mobile game to be released, you can still play Rainbow Six Siege on PC or consoles. Don’t have a company to enjoy the game to the fullest? • Crossplay between PC and Xbox is currently unavailable.
  • PlayStation users cannot play with PC users.

Rainbow Six Siege, my favorite tactical shooter with a unique twist, has maintained its originality and relevance for 9 years. Unlike most multiplayer shooters that focus on speed and static locations, Rainbow Six Siege is all about strategic planning and detailed map knowledge. The element of limited destruction on all maps significantly impacts the gameplay. The title is also a bit similar to Overwatch-like games in the way that each character here has unique abilities. Rainbow Six Siege has a huge number of active players on all possible platforms. But is Rainbow Six Siege crossplay? Below, I’ll explain everything regarding this feature in R6 and answer other popular questions.

There’s nothing better than playing R6 with other shooter fans!

Is Rainbow Six Siege Crossplay?

Yes, Rainbow Six Siege has crossplay; however, there are limitations, as not all platforms can play together freely. In short, console gamers can play together but won’t meet PC or Luna players in the lobby. I will explain everything in a little more detail below.

Can PC Users Play With Xbox Gamers In Siege?

No, crossplay between Xbox and PC is not available in Rainbow Six Siege. So, currently, PC players can only play together with Luna cloud service users, and if you try to join a party via a console, it won’t work.

Does Rainbow Six Siege Crossplay Work Between PS4/5 And PC?

No, PS players can’t play with PC users, but they can play with other console users. This means that for PlayStation console users, crossplay only works between different PS generations and Xbox.

Can Xbox And PlayStation Players Play Together?

Yes, Xbox and PlayStation players can play Rainbow Six Siege together. Ubisoft implemented console crossplay between Xbox and PlayStation platforms in December 2021. This means players on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 can matchmake together in all game modes.

Why Is There No Crossplay Between PC And Xbox/PS?

Why is Rainbow Six Siege’s crossplay not full? Ubisoft decided to set limitations for competitive reasons. Most likely, it’s all about balance due to different input methods — controllers on consoles and keyboard + mouse on PC. However, the developers said that the new season will bring many changes to the game and also new solutions regarding Rainbow Six Siege crossplay between PC and consoles. Still, it’s too early to rejoice since there are no additional details yet.

How To Activate/deactivate Crossplay In Rainbow Six Siege?

Rainbow Six Siege crossplay is enabled by default, but you can disable it or check its status by doing the following:

  1. Launch the game.

  2. Go to the Options menu.

  3. In the General tab, look for the Crossplay Matchmaking settings.

  4. Select On/Off, depending on whether you need crossplay.

How To Activate/deactivate Crossplay In Rainbow Six Siege?

Is Cross-Progression Available In Rainbow Six Siege?

Rainbow Six Siege has cross-progression but with some peculiarities. When you link accounts between different platforms, only certain progress is shared. For instance, your current rank, rank history, and MMR are transferred only between Xbox and PS consoles or between PC and Luna. On the other hand, according to Ubisoft, your battle pass progression, internal currency, and cosmetics can be shared across all platforms, allowing you to maintain a consistent experience regardless of the platform you’re playing on.

Should We Expect Any Changes Regarding The Crossplay Feature?

Despite the developers’ news that the next season will feature a lot of different updates, including crossplay, I think it is very unlikely that there will be full crossplay in Rainbow Six Siege between PCs and consoles. Although there are examples of matchmaking using the input method in the industry, which solves this problem and ensures equal conditions, Ubisoft apparently decided to go a different way. So, the developers have not shared any clear plans or details regarding further changes to crossplay, but the game fans are already in the anticipation.

There’s nothing better than playing R6 with other shooter fans! Use GameTree to find partners who would love to join your party or invite you to their squad. Final Thoughts

Considering that Rainbow Six Siege is primarily a competitive shooter where neither side should have an advantage, the developers’ desire to provide equal conditions for all platforms seems fair. Thus, R6 crossplay is a bit limited. PS/Xbox players can only play with other console players. PC users are limited to crossplay only with each other and with Luna users. There are also some cross-progression peculiarities, which I talked about in this article. However, such nuances certainly do not make the game worse, and I have been playing it with pleasure for a long time!
