💡 Highlights

  • There are nine ranks in Overwatch 2, from Bronze to Champion, plus a Top 500 leaderboard.
  • Each of Overwatch 2 ranks is divided into 5 sublevels from 5 to 1.
  • You should play 10 placement matches to determine your starting rank.
  • There are two ranked modes: Role Queue gives separate ranks per role; Open Queue gives one universal rank.
  • Ranked rewards include Competitive Points (CP) for wins and losses, redeemable for weapon skins.

With the release of Season 9, changes were made to the Overwatch 2 ranking system. These updates are designed to make matchmaking better and help players keep track of their progress more easily. I suggest taking a closer look at these changes and understanding all the intricacies in this article.

About Overwatch Competitive Ranking System

Before climbing the Overwatch ranks in competitive mode, you should play 10 calibration matches to determine your starting rank. After that, you will participate in ranked matches and compete with other players with approximately the same skills as you. After the match is completed, depending on the results, your rating will smoothly change in one direction or another. I’ll dive into details about the Overwatch tiers further in the article.

All Overwatch 2 Ranks In Order

There are nine Overwatch 2 ranks, each split into five levels. Level 5 is the starting point, and level 1 is the top tier. The ranks go from Bronze all the way up to Champion. Plus, there’s a special ranking called Top 500, which highlights the 500 best players in a certain role and on a specific platform for each region.

Overall, the Overwatch 2 ranking system looks like this:

RankLowest Highest
Bronze51
Silver51
Gold51
Platinum51
Diamond51
Master51
Grandmaster51
Champion51
Top 500

How Does The Overwatch 2 Ranked System Work?

The Overwatch 2 rank system includes two modes – Role Queue and Open Queue.

In Role Queue, you choose the role you want to play in the match and ultimately receive an individual rank. In such a match, the composition by roles is strictly defined and looks like this — 1 tank, 2 damage heroes, and 2 supports.

In Open Queue, players choose any role they want and ultimately receive one universal rank.

At the end of the matches, you see detailed statistics on your progress regarding increasing or decreasing your Overwatch competitive rank.

What Is SR?

The old Skill Rating (SR) system used to be this number that showed your Overwatch rank. But in Overwatch 2, they ditched the SR system and went with a tiered ranking system – like Bronze, Silver, Gold, and so on. Still, a lot of players throw around the term “SR” when they’re talking about ranks. It’s interesting to see how mixed opinions are about this new Overwatch 2 ranking system on Reddit, and honestly, I get it; it can definitely be a bit confusing.

Previously the rank distribution lokked as follows:

RankSR requirement
Bronze1-1499 SR
Silver1500-1999 SR
Gold2000-2499 SR
Platinum2500-2999 SR
Diamond3000-3499 SR
Master3500-3999 SR
Grandmaster4000+ SR
Top 500
The Old Ranked Levels

Note:

After season 9 patch notes this ranks and SR requirement are not working anymore, as Overwatch ditched the SR system.

About MMR System

MMR, or matchmaking rating, is a secret parameter that affects matchmaking in Overwatch 2 and compares the player’s performance and victories with other players. In this way, the system tries to select players of a similar performance level. In general, MMR is approximately equal to the player’s rank.

Placement Matches And Rank Resets

Placement Matches are calibration matches since all players start with a clean slate in Season 9. Players need to play 10 placement matches for the game to determine their initial Overwatch competitive rank. At the end of each calibration match, you will see detailed statistics with a predicted rank, and it will be clearer to you which division you are most likely to get into.

Rank Modifiers

At the end of a competitive match, you’ll see your progress toward the next skill level and a list of the different modifiers the game uses to determine how quickly you gain or lose rank:

  • Win Streak – bonus for the number of wins in a row
  • Loss Streak – penalty for the number of losses in a row
  • Calibration – rank has not yet been determined.
  • Uphill Battle – you won despite the situation that was not in your favor.
  • Reversal – you lost, although the situation was in your favor and you should have won.
  • Volatile – loss in calibration matches after increasing the rank.
  • Expected – victory in a situation when you were expected to win.
  • Consolation – loss in a situation when you were expected to lose.
  • Demotion Protection – your rank will be lowered if you lose once again.
  • Demotion – losing a match while being protected from lowering the rank.
  • Wide – your group is wide so you gained or lost less rank.
  • Pressure – you were pushing toward average at a high or low rank.

Ranked Rewards

Season 9 saw a significant overhaul of the ranked rewards system. All Competitive Points (CP) players earned before Season 9 were turned into Legacy Competitive Points (Legacy CP), which you can use to buy golden weapon skins.

CP earned in 2024 can only be used to purchase jade weapon skins. The CP you received at the end of each season based on your Overwatch ranking have been removed, but they can still be earned through Competitive Progression. For every 30 Competitive Progress Points, you receive 100 CP. Wins give 3 Competitive Progress Points, and losses and draws give 1. At the end of the year, CPs are converted into Legacy CPs, which can be used to purchase golden weapon skins.

At the end of a match in Season 9, players can receive the following amount of CP:

  • Win – 10 CP
  • Draw – 5 CP
  • Loss – 0 CP

How To Unlock Ranked In Overwatch 2

Those who have been playing for a long time and have Overwatch 1 do not need to do anything – they already have access to ranked queues. New players need to do the following:

  1. Complete the First Time User Experience (FTUE) – an in-game introduction designed to introduce new players who created an account after October 4, 2022, to Overwatch 2.
  2. Make sure to verify your phone number.
  3. Win 50 Quick Play games.
  4. After that, Role Queue and Open Queue will become available to you.

Differences In Gameplay Across The Ranks

The Overwatch 2 ranking system is organized in such a way that it  pairs you with others in your skill range, so as you level up, you’ll face tougher competition. In the low ranks, you’ll run into complete beginners. When you hit the medium ranks, you’ll find a mix of players who are pretty experienced and others who are really skilled. Once you reach the high ranks, you’re up against folks who not only have amazing mechanics but also know the game inside and out, including all the heroes and maps. Playing at high ranks feels a lot like watching esports professionals in action.

How To Check Rank In Overwatch 2?

In order to check your rank in Overwatch 2, you need to do the following:

  1. Go to the main menu screen.
  2. Press Esc for PC or Start if you are playing on console.
  3. Select Career Profile in the menu that appears.

Tip:

In the Career Profile, you will find all the detailed information about your Overwatch competitive rank both in the current season and in previous ones.

How To Rank Up In Overwatch 2?

Overwatch 2 is a super fun game that makes the hours fly by, with a wide variety of male and female heroes with unique and playstyles. But just as the game is easy to pick up, it is also incredibly difficult to master. I’ve spent a lot of time grinding in this game to reach my current rank, and I’ve got some tips to help you climb the OW2 ranks faster.

Master A Few Heroes

Pick the heroes you like best and focus on getting really good with them. Make sure to keep up with the developer updates and the current meta to see if your main heroes get any buffs or nerfs. Don’t even try to master all characters! It’s better to play a few of them well than to be an average player with any hero.

Communicating With Your Team Is The Key

Playing with randoms can definitely help you get better at the mechanics, but working as a team is a whole different ball game. If you really want to develop fast, it’s a good idea to find some players who are just as into it as you are and train with them regularly. You can check out LFG servers on Discord or download the GameTree app, which greatly simplifies the matchmaking and introduces you to players who match your Overwatch rank and style of play.

Study Maps

Remember that a detailed understanding of maps is one of the key factors that contribute to victory. You must know the map well, the names of key places, basic and advanced tactics, and what compositions can be used to play according to a particular strategy on a section of the map. You must be able to read the map, promptly react to the enemy’s movement, and effectively communicate this to the team and coordinate your actions.

Work On Your Mechanics

Train your aim, movement, and ability management. This is true for all shooter games like Overwatch 2. There are special training programs for aim that will help you boost your reflexes. Also, study training videos for your main heroes to better understand all their subtleties and what you need to pay attention to. And, of course, the most important thing is to have more practice – with practice, your aim and cooldown timings will gradually become automatic.

Review Your Gameplay And Learn From Your Mistakes

Many Overwatch 2 fans recommend watching streams of professional players. But I’ll tell you this: it’s equally important to analyze your mistakes to climb the Overwatch ranks. You will become a better player if you watch your replays and analyze your mistakes, understand what led to certain results, and adjust your actions in the future.

  • There are 5 tiers on Overwatch 2, from S to D. S tier is the strongest one, while D-tier characters are rarely picked as they require improvements.
  • The Overwatch meta changes with each new season or when there are significant changes to the balance.

On December 10th, Overwatch 2 Season 14, called Hazard, started, which has prepared a lot of new interesting things for players. It would seem that only recently, the Overwatch meta was always discussed on Reddit, and now there is a new season already! In addition to various new content, Season 14 rebalanced many heroes, so the meta from the previous season has also changed. So, I have compiled the current Overwatch 2 tier list to make it easier and faster for you to figure out which heroes you should pay attention to first in New Frontiers.

About Overwatch 2 Meta And Season 14 Changes

The new season of Overwatch 2 brought many changes to the game and new content. The developers surprised us with a new hero — Hazard, a 6v6 Role Queue experiment, as well as the return of Winter Wonderland event and many hero updates.

Overwatch 2 Tier List Explained

Since Overwatch 2 has so many heroes with unique abilities, there are tiers to help players quickly understand how some heroes compare to others. This gradation usually reflects the general trend of the number of hero picks and their wins compared to others. The Overwatch tier list is relevant for a specific season or before a major update that makes adjustments to the balance of heroes. In fact, it works the same way as in all Overwatch-like games.

The gradation goes from the S tier, which contains the strongest heroes at the moment. They are present in the current Overwatch meta and will be encountered in almost every match. They are a must-pick for professional players and generally have the best winning statistics.

The lowest is the D tier, with heroes requiring revision and not well-suited for ranked matches. Yet, there are always players who know their hero’s intricacies and shortcomings well and can perform impeccably even with a hero from the B tier. However, I generally recommend choosing heroes from the highest Overwatch 2 tiers to grow in the ranks and win. So, here’s the full Overwatch 2 tier list for Season 14.

TierHeroes
STracer, Sojourn, Zarya, Sigma, Mauga, Ana, Lucio, Kiriko
AAshe, Sombra, Cassidy, Venture, Pharah, D.Va, Orisa, Junker Queen, Baptiste, Illari, Hazard
BWidowmaker, Ramattra, Reaper, Soldier 76, Mei, Bastion, Echo, Genji, Doomfist, Winston, Roadhog, Moira, Brig, Juno
CReinhardt, Symmetra, Torbjorn, Wrecking Ball, Zenyatta
DHanzo, Junkrat, Mercy, Lifeweaver

S Tier

The S tier contains the best Overwatch 2 characters in Season 14. These heroes will be present in almost all matches and are ideal for all maps and compositions. These are ultimate heroes with strong abilities that have no drawbacks. Some of the heroes can almost always stay in this Overwatch 2 tier list, while others get there after rebalancing in the latest patches. These heroes are most often chosen by professionals, but they will also be the best choice for ordinary players to win and increase their rank. So, the S tier right now includes:

  • Tracer;
  • Sojourn;
  • Zarya;
  • Sigma;
  • Mauga;
  • Ana;
  • Lucio;
  • Kiriko.
Overwatch 2 Best characters

A Tier

The A tier also includes very strong heroes, which, however, may have minor drawbacks that prevent them from objectively getting into the S tier. Heroes from this Overwatch 2 tier list may show themselves worse on some maps or may be quite difficult to master. These heroes are less versatile and will be present on fewer maps in professional games. Nevertheless, this is a good choice for winning matches and growing in ranks. Here is my list of heroes for A tier:

  • Ashe;
  • Sombra;
  • Cassidy;
  • Venture;
  • Pharah;
  • D.Va;
  • Orisa;
  • Junker Queen;
  • Baptiste;
  • Illari.

B Tier

The B tier is all about heroes that are average in every sense. These are not bad heroes, but they usually have one or more drawbacks. They may have weaker abilities than in tier A or a narrower specialization, which does not make them effective on certain maps. These heroes are usually used even less by professional players, and in general, they require further improvement and rebalancing. The Overwatch 2 B-tier list of heroes in Season 14 is as follows:

  • Widowmaker;
  • Ramattra;
  • Reaper;
  • Soldier 76;
  • Mei;
  • Bastion;
  • Echo;
  • Genji;
  • Doomfist;
  • Winston;
  • Roadhog;
  • Moira;
  • Brig;
  • Juno;
  • Hazard.
Best Overwatch 2 characters

C Tier

The C tier contains highly specialized heroes. They can be good in certain situations and on certain maps, but they are even less often taken on the professional scene. These are not the best Overwatch characters since they require some skills and are hard to play if your goal is to increase your rank. However, there are always players who may favor the heroes from this list and perform well with them. The list of heroes for the C tier is as follows:

  • Symmetra;
  • Reinhardt;
  • Torbjorn;
  • Wrecking Ball;
  • Zenyatta.

D Tier

Tier D is similar to the previous one, but these heroes are not suitable for increasing the rank in season 14 and require further improvements. These are also very narrowly specialized heroes, or there are simply analogs to them that will be stronger or easier to master. The following heroes fall into the Overwatch hero D-tier list:

  • Junkrat;
  • Hanzo;
  • Mercy;
  • Lifeweaver.
Overwatch 2 meta

Best Overwatch 2 DPS Characters

DPS heroes or damage dealers are heroes who deal the main damage and are responsible for finding and eliminating the enemy team’s heroes using their various abilities and ultimates. In the table below, you can find out which damage dealers belong to which Overwatch 2 tier.

TierHeroes
STracer, Sojourn
AAshe, Sombra, Cassidy, Venture, Pharah
BWidowmaker, Reaper, Soldier 76, Mei, Bastion, Echo, Genji
CSymmetra, Torbjorn
DHanzo, Junkrat

Overwatch Tank Hero Tier List

Tanks are one of the key heroes because they need to be on the front line, absorb a lot of damage, and cover DPS heroes, distracting attention to themselves and thus opening a window of opportunity to damage the enemy. These heroes lead the attack, destroying fortified enemy positions. Here is a table for tanks from the Overwatch 2 meta to less effective characters in Season 14 of Overwatch 2.

TierHeroes
SZarya, Sigma, Mauga
AD.Va, Orisa, Junker Queen,
BDoomfist, Ramattra, Winston, Roadhog
CReinhardt, Wrecking Ball

Best Overwatch Support Characters

Support is a role that should not be underestimated. These heroes on this Overwatch 2 tier list may have fewer kills per match compared to DPS or tanks, but they have the vital job of supporting and healing both tanks and damage dealers. Without a good support hero in the team, tanks can quickly become useless, and the team can crumble in the face of an organized onslaught from the enemy. In addition to healing, support heroes also help their team by increasing their damage and providing various vital utilities. Support is the backbone of your team’s survival, and here is an Overwatch 2 tank characters tier list.

TierHeroes
SAna, Lucio, Kiriko
ABaptiste, Illari
BMoira, Brig, Juno
CZenyatta
DMercy, Lifeweaver

Being an Overwatch and Overwatch 2 fan for many years, I have faced many challenges that prevent online players from having an ultimate gaming experience. Finding decent teammates is probably one of the most annoying issues, especially taking into account the shi… khm khm… the “not-that-great” matchmaking system. Luckily, the constantly rising number of this game’s community has offered the fans some excellent solutions for this problem, with GameTree being one of them (wink-wink). But today we are here to talk about Overwatch 2 LFG Discord servers and their rising popularity.

You can send invitations there. Also, a huge benefit is an in-built voice chat powered by GameTree.

Overwatch 2 LFG

The Overwatch LFG Discord server has been live for many years, and it is currently one of the biggest servers for this shooter. Established to let gamers find teams and opponents quickly, it offers far more: game news and updates, OW2 esports, giveaways, and even a chance to get updates about Overwatch skins that can be bought.

If you decide to join it, be ready to fill in a quick questionnaire and share a preferred region and device on which you play this shooting game.

Overwatch Cavalry

If you are interested in Overwatch team finder on Discord, you should pay attention to the Overwatch Cavalry server. It is a relatively small community, but it unites true fans of this thrilling shooter. You can indicate your competitive mode to find players of your level and experience quickly. Just indicate your region, preferred platform, and pings (quick play, PC competitive, console competitive, etc.).

Overwatch LFG Discord Alternatives

Even though LFG Overwatch 2 Discord servers are quite convenient, there are alternatives that you would not like to miss. If you want to take your gaming experience to the next level or have a much broader discussion than simply focusing on the game updates and finding opponents, you would like to test other LFG options. Some of them are mentioned below!

GameTree

Being one of not that many apps for gamers, GameTree is an excellent LFG alternative to Discord and has plenty of benefits that servers cannot offer. Our application unites gamers from all over the world and creates an engaging community for them where they can communicate and find teammates for games.

What is truly special about GameTree is that you can create your profile and add as many details about yourself as you like other gamers to know. The AI algorithm used by our developers creates perfect matches for gamers to ensure the most competitiveness and fun. The choice of the teammate is based on the answers you provide about your gaming behavior and preferences.

Reddit

Another alternative to Overwatch Discord LFG is Reddit. However, unlike the GameTree app, it does not have a clear focus on gaming and lacks innovation. Yet, you can find Overwatch threads and join some discussions there. Some threads are dedicated to LFG, but you can never be sure that a game partner is a perfect choice for your level and skills when you find them on Reddit.

Final Thoughts

We all know how important it is to join communities to have a circle of friends to discuss the game and news around it in text chat or voice chat, as well as to be able to find teammates or opponents quickly. Overwatch LFG Discord servers are certainly the place for communication with other players. Still, gaming develops constantly and offers more handy LFG variants. I personally advice using the GameTree LFG app which offers a convenient algorithm for finding game groups and opponents, as well as a friendly community for like-minded Overwatch gamers. If you have not tested this app yet, I recommend you do so!

In Warframe, players take on missions across various planets and dimensions, battling against the oppressive factions that threaten the solar system. I like its quick action, deep customization options, and emphasis on cooperative gameplay.

So, Warframe is one of the games similar to Overwatch regarding some features, though overall they are different.

Valorant is also on my list of free games like Overwatchs. This is a tactical first-person shooter developed by Riot Games, blends the precision of gunplay with the strategic depth of character abilities. As a fan of Overwatch 2, I also like Valorant’s competitive gameplay, dynamic maps, and diverse roster of agents.

Valorant has many similarities with Overwatch 2, from its focus on team-based gameplay and diverse character roster to its engaging competitive experience and vibrant community. In both games, you should work together as a team to achieve various objectives, whether it’s capturing control points, pushing payloads, or defending objectives from enemy attacks. Knockout City, developed by Velan Studios, is an exciting multiplayer dodgeball game that’s captured my attention. What? A ball game? How could this game be similar to Overwatch? Actually, its blend of action, strategic gameplay, and colorful visual style reminds me of the Overwatch 2’s matches. And yes, I admit that the theme and gameplay are completely different. Still, whether it’s passing the ball to teammates for a combo or coordinating special throws to take down opponents, every match in Knockout City is all about team effort, just like in OW2.

By the way, this game has also made it to our list of the best multiplayer Switch games.

For sure, the Splatoon 3 game is not like Overwatch regarding features, gameplay mechanics, and visual style. Still, they share common elements such as teamwork, diverse characters, and varied game modes.

Why Do Gamers Enjoy Overwatch Type Games?

Overwatch 2 is a shooter that corresponds to the spirit of its time and consists of elements that are already mandatory for all modern shooters. These include unique heroes with their own abilities and specific gameplay, teamwork, a striking visual style, and the ability of players to emphasize their individuality through skins and various motion sets. This also implies the presence of season or battle passes with regular new content and skins. All these elements work, are relevant, and bring fun to the players. Yet, playing even the best game, you get bored one day and want something new but in the same story or gameplay. Therefore, requests for new Overwatch-type games remain relevant for both players and developers.

The Rise Of Overwatch Girl Characters

Some players are surprised that there are so many female characters in Overwatch 2. Initially, the game had more male heroes, but the OW team has always stated that they want to make their game equal for everyone and strive to show a future in which there is gender balance. In fact, the ratio between female and male characters is approximately 50/50 now and the first non-binary character is going to have their first appearence soon. Way to go!

In addition, there is another reason for adding more girls to Overwatch: people tend to buy female skins more often, and female characters are also more enjoyable for fanart.

Nevertheless, the female heroes in Overwatch are not only visually appealing but also portrayed as strong and capable characters, which many players actively seek out using Overwatch 2 LFG apps like GameTree.

Although there are always to sides to the story, and some players would like to see more male characters in the upcoming seasons, thus being a bit more on the toxic side. But we’ll see how it goes, and as for now, we’re concentrating on female Overwatch characters. so let’s explore what we’ve got.

All The Female Overwatch Characters List

There are a total of 17 female heroes in Overwatch. Each of them appeared in the game at a particular moment and was endowed with specific characteristics, types (damage, support, and tank), and ults. Accordingly, playing as each of these girls will give you a different gaming experience. From the lists below, you’ll learn all Overwatch female heroes’ names, as well as their ultimate abilities and perks.

Damage

Damage characters are the heroes who deal the most damage on the team and are responsible for finding and eliminating the enemy using their various tools and abilities. So, below, you will find descriptions of all female Overwatch characters that are damage dealers.

Sojourn

Sojourn is one of the top damage female Overwatch characters.

First appearance: Overwatch 2

Weapons: Railgun

Abilities: Power Slide, Disruptor Shot

Ultimate: Overclock

Passive: Damage

Sojourn is one of the top damage female Overwatch characters. She is an effective, versatile, and simple damage hero, provided that the player shoots accurately.

The basic gameplay is to load up the Railgun while shooting at tanks, use Disruptor Shot to slow down the target, and then use Railgun Alt Fire, preferably aiming for the head of anyone within Disruptor Shot’s range. Thanks to the Power Slide ability, if you take too much damage, you can slip out of the fight.

Sojourn is a rather difficult hero to master because you need to shoot accurately. Most of the hero’s power comes from the Railgun’s secondary fire.

Special tips:

  • Sojourn is a classic damage hero, so hang around on the front lines, keeping your distance while remaining relatively safe. Use Railgun Alt Fire on any weakened targets, especially support heroes.
  • Focus on maintaining your main fire, sliding to stay mobile and avoid damage, and building up your Railgun charge.
  • The alt fire does not persist, so use it immediately after charging each time.

Sombra

Sombra is among the most difficult damage-dealing female characters in Overwatch 2.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Machine Pistol

Abilities: Hack,Translocator,Virus

Ultimate: EMP

Passive: Damage, Stealth

Sombra is among the most difficult damage-dealing female characters in Overwatch 2. She uses her hacks and movement abilities to teleport around the battlefield, supporting her team and eliminating key targets.

Although Sombra doesn’t have the highest damage output, she makes up for it with powerful support, hacking abilities, and high mobility, which allows her to be everywhere at once.

Special tips:

  • Use the translocator to gain high ground and pick off enemies from above.
  • Sombra becomes visible briefly when performing a hack. Make sure no one is in sight when you are hacking.
  • Only you can see enemies through walls using the Opportunist ability, so be sure to coordinate with your team.
  • Hack is the central ability in her set and the key to victory. Plus, hacking health kits near retreat points lets you quickly restore an ally’s health if a healer is not nearby.

Mei

Mei is great for 1v1 combat and is one of the most valuable offensive Overwatch female characters, especially if played carefully.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Endothermic Blaster

Abilities: Cryo-Freeze, Ice Wall

Ultimate: Blizzard

Passive: Damage

Mei is great for 1v1 combat and is one of the most valuable offensive Overwatch 2 female characters, especially if played carefully. Unlike other attackers, Mei is more team-oriented and does not need to be aggressive. This versatile hero can stop the entire team with an ice wall or end the fight by going into freezing and healing herself.

Special tips:

  • Mei interacts well with teammates who can use her abilities, especially Ice Wall. However, thanks to a wide range of abilities, she can play independently and fits nicely into various compositions, except for the dive.
  • Before using the Ice Wall, be very careful and ensure your teammates don’t get trapped in the enemy’s backline.

Symmetra

Symmetra is one of the most complex Overwatch girl characters to master.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Photon Projector

Abilities: Sentry Turret, Teleporter

Ultimate: Photon Barrier

Passive: Damage

Symmetra is one of the most complex Overwatch girl characters to master. Her abilities give the team both defensive features and the ability to quickly change positions. She can cover chokepoints with Sentry Turret, use Teleporter to move teammates to high ground or ambush the enemy team, and split the map in half with her Photon Barrier ultimate. Her mobility compensates for her low health.

Special tips:

  • Change the location of the turrets to force the enemy team to guess which angles are dangerous.
  • Symmetra can teleport her enemies while they are using her ultimates. This can be used to save your team or, for example, move an enemy to the center of your own team.
  • Her turrets also slow down enemies and alert you to their attacks so they can be used as alarms.

Echo

Echo is a flexible Overwatch female hero that suits different combinations and is applicable to different situations.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Tri-Shot

Abilities: Sticky Bombs, Flight, Focusing Beam

Ultimate: Duplicate

Passive: Damage, Glide

Echo is a flexible Overwatch female hero that suits different combinations and is applicable to different situations. She can dive next to tanks, cover the back line, snipe enemies from above, or focus on breaking through enemy shields. Thanks to her high mobility, Echo can attack from multiple positions and bypass shields to strike a vulnerable backline with her Focus Beam.

Special tips:

  • Don’t overuse flying, as this is Echo’s main means of escape during a firefight.
  • Focusing Beam is good only if you’re shooting at enemies below half health.
  • Using Duplicate to restore your low health may not be the best idea since you can get killed during the transition period.

Tracer

Tracer is a melee Overwatch girl character who specializes in speed and single-target damage.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Pulse Pistols

Abilities: Blink, Recall

Ultimate: Pulse Bomb

Passive: Damage

Tracer is a melee Overwatch girl character who specializes in speed and single-target damage. With Blink, Tracer can quickly move around the map, flank enemies, deal damage to them, and then escape. Due to her low health and lack of shield regeneration, she must constantly move and use Blink and Recall to avoid or negate damage.

Special tips:

  • Use the Blink and Recall abilities, which are ideal for imposing aggression since they have a low cooldown.
  • Tracer is not very suitable for direct combat. Attacking from the side or behind is the best option due to her low health.
  • Avoid fighting heroes with strong health when they are out of cooldown.

Widowmaker

Widowmaker is a classic sniper hero.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Widow’s Kiss

Abilities: Grappling Hook, Venom Mine

Ultimate: Infra-Sight

Passive: Damage

Widowmaker is a classic sniper hero. Her powerful sniper rifle allows her to take out damage and support heroes with one headshot. She can do this from a long distance, so the enemy will have little to oppose her. Additionally, playing as Widowmaker is relatively easy, provided the player is a good shot.

Special tips:

  • Don’t stay in one place after a few shots, as it’s only a matter of time before uninvited guests come to you.
  • Focus on healers and weak DPS characters first, as they have low HP.
  • If you’re having trouble in open areas, move close to corridors and narrow passages to make headshots easier.

Ashe

Ashe is a DPS Overwatch girl who wields a powerful rifle and can throw explosives at opponents to deal damage at close range or to escape.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: The Viper

Abilities: Dynamite, Coach Gun

Ultimate: B.O.B.

Passive: Damage

Ashe is a DPS Overwatch girl who wields a powerful rifle and can throw explosives at opponents to deal damage at close range or to escape. Ashe is great for mid to long ranges, where her rifle explosions do decent damage.

Special tips:

  • When activated, B.O.B. appears to the right of Ashe. Keep this in mind when using her ultimate to avoid accidentally hitting your allies.
  • Ashe is good for destroying supports and heroes with low HP and a lack of capabilities to deal with ranged threats.
  • Dynamite works exceptionally well in tight spaces and places where enemies are clustered.

Pharah

Pharah is an Overwatch female character with excellent aerial mobility, and her rocket launcher does excellent splash damage.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Rocket Launcher

Abilities: Jet Dash, Jump Jet, Concussive Blast

Ultimate: Barrage

Passive: Damage, Hover Jets

Pharah is an Overwatch female character with excellent aerial mobility, and her rocket launcher does excellent splash damage. Jump Jet lifts Pharah into the air, allowing her to position herself for well-directed attacks or run away from danger. She can also use her ability to fly to reach hard-to-reach spots on maps where enemies aren’t expecting her. Barrage is one of the most dangerous ultimate abilities in the game, capable of easily wiping out entire teams. Overall, Pharah is a good backline character, capable of harassing enemies from afar, dealing good damage to shields, and separating the enemy team members from each other.

Special tips:

  • The missiles from Barrage deal a lot of damage and can hit you if you use your Ultimate too close to the enemies.
  • After the nerf to AoE damage, using the rocket launcher at close range is better for dealing with more direct damage.
  • After defeating an enemy, you gain increased speed, which you can use effectively with Jump Jet to escape enemies or close the distance to the next one.

Support

Support Overwatch women are the backbone of a team’s survival. They are the only heroes who can heal their teammates, making their role incredibly important. Support heroes also help their team by increasing damage and providing various vital utilities. So, here’s the list of all female Overwatch characters of this type.

Juno

Juno

First appearance: Overwatch 2

Weapons:  Mediblaster, Pulsar Torpedoes

Abilities:  Glide Boost, Hyper Ring

Ultimate: Orbital Ray

Passive: Martian Overboots

Juno is Overwatch 2’s new Support hero, featuring unique mobility and team utility. Her Mediblaster both heals allies and damages enemies, but cannot headshot. Pulsar Torpedoes offer lock-on burst damage or healing over time. Juno’s Glide Boost provides horizontal mobility, while Hyper Ring speeds up allies and Juno instantly.

Special tips:

  • Aim for body shots with Mediblaster, as headshots don’t apply.
  • Use Hyper Ring for immediate self-speed boost and team mobility.
  • Orbital Ray ultimate penetrates all structures, including walls and floors.

Illari

Illari

First Appearance: Overwatch 2

Weapons: Solar Rifle

Abilities: Healing Pylon, Outburst

Ultimate: Captive Sun

Passive: Support

Illari, introduced in Overwatch 2, is a versatile support hero with a unique solar-powered kit. She excels at balancing healing and damage, making her a valuable addition to any team. Illari’s Solar Rifle can deal precision damage while providing bursts of healing. Her Healing Pylon offers sustained healing to allies in its radius, giving her flexibility in maintaining her team’s health. Illari’s Outburst allows her to reposition quickly or push enemies away. Her ultimate ability, Captive Sun, unleashes explosive damage, punishing grouped enemies.

Illari’s kit is ideal for players who enjoy playing both offensively and defensively. Her skillset rewards situational awareness and good positioning.

Special Tips:

  1. Protect the Healing Pylon: Illari’s Healing Pylon is crucial for keeping your team alive. Place it in areas where it’s hard for enemies to destroy but accessible to teammates.
  2. Mind Your Ammo: Illari’s Solar Rifle uses different ammo types for healing and damage, so managing your shots is key to maximizing efficiency.
  3. Utilize Outburst: Use Outburst to escape danger or knock enemies into vulnerable positions.
  4. Ultimate Combos: Captive Sun is highly effective when combined with crowd-control abilities or other ultimates that group enemies together.

Kiriko

Kiriko boasts one of the most powerful support sets and a useful teleport ability

First appearance: Overwatch 2

Weapons: Healing Ofuda, Kunai

Abilities: Swift Step, Protection Suzu

Ultimate: Kitsune Rush

Passive: Support, Wall Climb

This female Overwatch character boasts one of the most powerful support sets and a useful teleport ability. An experienced Kiriko player can easily damage heroes with low health. Kiriko can move a lot to avoid getting knocked down. While her secondary fire, kunai, doesn’t do as much damage as other healers, its fire and reload speed allow Kiriko to take down an enemy that comes too close.

Special tips:

  • Healing Ofuda moves quickly and covers a long distance, so even if a teammate is far away, you can easily heal them.
  • The kunai has a very long range and deals massive damage when it hits the head, so you can quite easily kill an unwary enemy with a successful hit.
  • It is important to remember that Kitsune Rush does not provide healing. It increases your fire rate and reload speed, so you can heal faster, but you still need to use healing.

Ana

Ana used to be one of the best supporting female characters in Overwatch 1.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Biotic Rifle

Abilities: Sleep Dart, Biotic Grenade

Ultimate: Nano Boost

Passive: Support

Ana used to be one of the best supporting female characters in Overwatch 1. In Overwatch 2, the blonde still excels in her role if the player knows how to use her abilities. Ana is a backline hero, and with her sniper rifle, she can heal teammates from afar, keeping them healthy while staying out of trouble. Ana’s kit is suitable for players with high skill and accuracy, as her sniper rifle, biotic grenade, and sleep dart are small but mighty skills.

Special tips:

  • When aimed, Ana’s shots leave a trail that reveals her position.
  • Due to her lack of movement abilities, Ana requires proper positioning. Otherwise, she will be much easier to kill.
  • The most effective way to play as Ana is to pump healing into your tank.

Brigitte

Brigitte is a support hero with abilities that almost make her a tank.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Rocket Flail

Abilities: Repair Pack, Whip Shot, Barrier Shield, Shield Bash

Ultimate: Rally

Passive: Support, Inspire

Brigitte is a support hero with abilities that almost make her a tank. Using her shield and hammer, Brigitte can get up close to enemies to heal her allies, then retreat and restore their health from a distance with repair packs. She can charge her shield to deal damage and make ranged attacks with her weapon, knocking enemies back. Her ultimate gives excess health to herself and everyone in the circle around her. This Overwatch girl is a powerful support hero for players who prefer to heal on the front lines. However, she is challenging to master since she radically differs from other support heroes in the game.

Special tips:

  • The whip shot will knock enemies back quite far, so take action if you see an enemy near a ledge.
  • You can store a maximum of 3 repair packs, so use them regularly.
  • Repair packs provide healing for a few seconds, so they can be thrown proactively before entering combat.

Mercy

Mercy is one of the easiest-to-learn female characters in Overwatch.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Caduceus Staff, Caduceus Blaster

Abilities: Angelic Descent, Guardian Angel, Resurrect

Ultimate: Valkyrie

Passive: Support, Sympathetic Recovery

Mercy is one of the easiest-to-learn female characters in Overwatch. She focuses almost entirely on healing. Mercy provides one of the highest amounts of healing among supports but deals very little damage. She is armed with a Caduceus Staff, which can connect to an ally and give them healing or a damage boost, depending on the situation. Mercy can also fly to her allies and even revive a fallen teammate with her ability.

Special tips:

  • Revive takes a while to prepare and a few seconds to complete the animation, so it’s essential to make sure you’re safe before using it.
  • The damage boost is most effective when paired with a friendly ultimate, causing it to deal even more damage.
  • Use Mercy’s flying abilities, since high mobility is very important for a support hero, and the team depends on timely help.

Moira

Moira is a support hero who heals well and has high damage ability.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Biotic Grasp

Abilities: Biotic Orb, Fade

Ultimate: Coalescence

Passive: Support

Moira is a support hero who heals well and has high damage ability. She heals by spraying healing mist with her primary fire, which is limited by the meter. This meter can be refilled with alt-fire, a beam attack that damages enemies within its radius. She has an orb that she can throw, choosing to either heal teammates or damage an enemy, depending on the situation. Her ultimate also does double duty as it is a long-range beam that heals teammates and damages enemies.

Special tips:

  • While in Fade, Moira jumps higher than usual. This way, you can get to places that are usually inaccessible.
  • Biotic Orb can pierce enemies but has no effect on those standing behind obstacles.
  • Moira can damage enemy heroes to charge her healing beam.

Tank

All these Overwatch 2 female characters absorb damage, protect their team members, and initiate attacks. They have large health reserves and defensive abilities that allow them to last longer in battle and divert enemy fire from their allies.

Junker Queen

Junker Queen is an aggressive tank in the meta who is not easy to kill.

First appearance: Overwatch 2

Weapons: Scattergun

Abilities: Jagged Blade, Commanding Shout

Ultimate: Carnage

Passive: Tank, Adrenaline Rush

Junker Queen is an aggressive tank in the meta who is not easy to kill. Her skill set is relatively simple and focuses on dealing damage over time. She also closes the distance between herself and enemies to deal maximum damage with her shotgun. In addition, her abilities give her speed and stability, which provide her with survivability.

Special tips:

  • Aim her ultimate carefully, as once the skill is activated, you won’t be able to change its direction easily.
  • Junker Queen is a 1v1 threat. Regenerating health when wounded and having access to the Commanding Shout ability, she can be virtually invincible for some time.
  • The HP buff for allies from Commanding Shout is weak and should not be relied upon to heal others. But the movement buff is handy; use it to give everyone a boost.

D.Va

D.Va is armed with two machine guns with unlimited ammunition, missiles, and a protective matrix that absorbs projectiles.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons:  Fusion Cannons, Light Gun

Abilities: Defense Matrix, Boosters,Micro Missiles

Ultimate: Self-Destruct

Passive: Tank, Eject!

D.Va is a pilot in a mech suit, which means when you run out of health, the pilot leaves the mech. D.Va is armed with two machine guns with unlimited ammunition, missiles, and a protective matrix that absorbs projectiles. The mech is also capable of flight for short periods. D.Va deals serious damage but has less survivability than other tanks.

Special tips:

  • After self-destructing, you automatically gain a full charge to summon a new mech.
  • The Defense Matrix does not affect beam weapons like Moira, Mei, and other similar Overwatch girls characters. So, if the enemy team has many such heroes, perhaps you should choose another tank hero.
  • Defense Matrix can absorb ultimate projectile abilities, like those from Zarya or Hanzo.

Zarya

Zarya protects her allies with barriers that enhance the damage of her Particle Cannon, balancing offense and defense with her energy system.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Particle Cannon

Abilities: Particle Barrier, Projected Barrier

Ultimate: Graviton Surge

Passive: Tank, Energy

Zarya protects her allies with barriers that enhance the damage of her Particle Cannon, balancing offense and defense with her energy system. The Particle Cannon fires either short-range beams or longer-range projectiles. Zarya has two barrier charges that can be shared among teammates or herself. Zarya is perhaps the most versatile tank in Overwatch 2. She uses the enemy team’s aggression to power up her attacks while also protecting her allies and draining the health of her opponents.

Special tips:

  • The Graviton Surge ultimate is a potential team killer, so it’s worth coordinating with your team regarding its current cooldown and casting strategy.
  • Alt fire is better than main fire. When you fire it at a group of enemies, you deal more damage and charge up faster.
  • Zarya is useless without energy, so you must maintain high energy levels.

Orisa

Orisa is an Overwatch girl that perfectly protects her team while simultaneously posing a threat up close.

First appearance: Overwatch 1

Weapons: Augmented Fusion Driver

Abilities: Energy Javelin, Fortify, Javelin Spin

Ultimate: Terra Surge

Passive: Tank

This Overwatch girl perfectly protects her team while simultaneously posing a threat up close. Her total HP is slightly lower than that of other tank heroes, but her armor compensates this by slightly reducing the damage dealt. Orisa is one of the most popular tanks in Overwatch 2. Her ability to protect her team with her spear and stop enemies in their tracks makes her a key choice in many Overwatch team compositions.

Special tips:

  • Orisa’s biggest weakness is other tanks, such as Reinhardt, who can deal more damage at close range.
  • Don’t attack alone; make sure you have the necessary support, as you won’t have enough HP to survive multiple encounters.
  • You can use Javelin Spin to help Orisa get closer or retreat, as the speed boost and shield help her cover space with minimal damage.

The Importance Of Choosing The Right Overwatch 2 Team Comp

Since Overwatch 2 is a competitive team game with an impressive number of heroes with unique weapons and skills, it is very important to choose the composition of heroes (comp) so that their abilities are ideally combined with each other.

Characters In Overwatch 2

Heroes in Overwatch 2 are divided into 3 classes:

  • tanks – characters with good armor and health;
  • damage characters – are usually very mobile and deal a lot of damage, but have average or low health;
  • support characters – heal heroes and support them in battle with various abilities and utilities.

Below, I’ve compiled a table with all the available heroes in the game at the moment, divided by their roles.

The Meta Comp

Meta Comp — best overwatch team comp to use
  • Soldier 76 – DPS
  • Baptiste – Healer
  • Orisa – Tank
  • Ana – Healer
  • Lucio – Healer

The meta team roster in the game, as the name suggests, includes the strongest heroes currently available.

The current Overwatch 2 meta comp may change with hero balance updates, but for now, the best Overwatch team looks like this. I also recommend taking tanks, such as Orisa or Sigma, supported by healers Lucio, Ana, and Baptiste, and a strong Soldier 76.

Having three healers is key, but if you still need additional protection, then Baptiste can be replaced with a tank, for example, Sigma.

Orisa’s updated abilities make her a formidable tank when paired with another tank and healer like Ana. Soldier 76 adds self-healing and good damage to cover the flanks.

With good team chemistry, this is the ultimate Overwatch 2 team comp for various map modes.

This strategy is best effective on the escort protection map.

The Endless Barrage

Endless Barrage — one of the most powerful Overwatch combos
  • Orisa – Tank
  • Mercy – Healer
  • Hanzo – DPS
  • Junkrat – DPS
  • Pharah – DPS

An interesting and aggressive Overwatch comp, implemented through 3 DPS heroes.

Pharah and Mercy are perhaps one of the strongest combinations. However, this pair of heroes was directly countered by hit scans, such as Soldier 76 or Cassidy. Still, having skilled Junkrat and Pharah players who keep their distance can solve this problem since Junkrat’s high damage and mines can destroy the hero very quickly. Additionally, thanks to the changes made to Hanzo’s kit compared to his earlier versions in Overwatch, he becomes a third strong DPS in the hands of a skilled player.

Strong pick of heroes with high DPS.

Quite difficult to implement and requires good team play and high skill from the players

Impenetrable Fortress

Impenetrable Fortress - Overwatch team composition with a lot of armor and good DPS
  • Orisa – Tank
  • Sigma –Tank
  • Zenyatta – Healer
  • Symmetra – DPS
  • Ashe – DPS

The three main heroes of such a team are Symmetra, Orisa, and Sigma, who, with proper coordination and planning, can create an impenetrable defense.

This trio will be greatly helped by Ashe here, as her ultimate Dynamite and B.O.B. cover long-range targets with ease, but you can also take Cassidy or Sombra if you wish. Zenyatta will be your main support, and it is very important that you cover him in order to prevent the enemy team from catching him on the flanks.

Strong Overwatch team composition with a lot of armor and good DPS

You need to watch and cover your heal all the time, and a Zenyatta player should perform well and heal tanks on time

Zone Control Overflow

Orisa one of the best tanks to use in your Overwatch team comp
  • Orisa – Tank
  • Roadhog – Tank
  • Ana – Healer
  • Moira – Healer
  • Mei – DPS

Another good Overwatch comp based on defense. Ana is paired with Orisa and uses her as cover during the most intense fights. Orisa can destroy enemies with a powerful AoE explosion of Terra Surge Ultimate. The Roadhog provides an extra layer of defense as it can grapple and destroy enemies with its powerful shotgun.

Moira can act here as a backup assistant and also deal damage with her decaying abilities.

Mei is one of the best utility kit characters in the game, as she maintains high damage output with her blaster’s firing modes. She will be especially useful in defensive situations, thanks to her Blizzard Ultimate, freezing enemies in close proximity. Her ice wall will help block advancing enemies.

A combination with good defense and DPS to push the enemy

Requires coordinated work of tanks and supports so that this Overwatch 2 team composition works as it should

Double Shield

Reinhardt - a very powerful tank to use in your Overwatch 2 team composition
  • Orisa – Tank
  • Reinhardt – Tank
  • Widowmaker – DPS
  • Hanzo – DPS
  • Baptiste – Healer

This arrangement will allow you to hold the point and make it incredibly difficult for the enemy to get through there. Orisa and Reinhardt protect either the front and rear at the same time or in one direction at a time.

Since this Overwatch 2 team comp is inactive, it combines well with Widowmaker and Hanzo snipers. For healers, you’ll need a lot of hit points, so Baptiste and his Immortality Shield will work well here.

This build is perfect for protecting and holding a point

There are stronger Overwatch team comps for most situations

Stun Comp

Roadhog
  • Orisa – Tank
  • Roadhog – Tank
  • Sombra – DPS
  • McCree – DPS
  • Ana – Healer

The essence of this arrangement is simple but very effective: each of these characters has one ability, which in one form or another limits the movement of the enemy. This composition is a direct counter pick to very mobile heroes, such as Tracer, Genji and Doomfist, which will disrupt the enemy’s rhythm and prevent aggressive attacks on you.

Good layout if you are facing a team designed for quick aggression and swift attacks

Requires coordinated actions and competent use of stuns

The Dive Comp

Winston - a strong tank for Overwatch 2 combo
  • Winston – Tank
  • Dva – Tank
  • Lucio – Healer
  • Tracer – DPS
  • Zenyatta – Healer

This team works well in attack, both pushing the enemy’s defense and performing rapid attacks on his back line. Select Tracer or Sombra on the flanks to deal with support or utility heroes by creating weak points. Winston will help with suppression. After destroying a minimum of one enemy, continue the attack with the whole group. Lucio needs to switch between boosting speed and healing to maintain momentum. As additional support for removing debuffs, Zenyatta or Ana are good candidates.

An excellent Overwatch comp for aggressive play and quick push of the enemy

Requires well-coordinated play and quick decision-making

The Alternative Dive

Wrecking Ball - tank for the Alternative Dive Overwatch team
  • Dva – Tank
  • Wrecking Ball – Tank
  • Roadhog – Tank
  • Lucio – Healer
  • Reaper – DPS

Another variation of the popular combination is based on the Dive comp strategy but has some changes that add some flavor to it.

We will have three tanks in the alternate lineup, which will include the energetic duo of Wrecking Ball and Roadhog. Even though the comp includes three tanks, Roadhog’s self-healing with Take-a-Breather is quite effective.

Wrecking Ball is a great choice for this Overwatch team build, thanks to his ball-form movement and distinctive abilities such as Grappling Claw and Piledriver. You should aim to rush into the fight with Wrecking Ball and Dva. Roadhog attacks from the flank and finishes off while the rest of the tanks support the enemy’s push.

Lucio also gives speed and healing boosts here. The fifth and remaining hero can be chosen at your discretion, adapting to the enemy team; it can be either a Reaper or an additional healer like Ana or Mercy.

When the team works together, this is a very powerful combination

For successful assaults, you need to constantly make sure that your tanks receive a sufficient amount of healing

The Rush Comp

Tracer
  • Soldier 76 – DPS
  • Tracer – DPS
  • Junker Queen – Tank
  • Lucio – Healer
  • Reinhardt – Tank

Rush comp is a very powerful combo and is designed for a coordinated attack on the opponent’s defense. The idea is to use Lucio and his speed boost on Junker Queen and Reinhardt to surprise your enemy’s backline. As a great tank, Junker Queen fits well into this build using Jagged Blade and Carnage Melee abilities.

If necessary, Soldier 76 can be replaced with other DPS, such as Genji or Sojourn. Likewise, Tracer can be replaced with Reaper or Junkrat for burst damage.

An excellent Overwatch comp for those who like fast and aggressive attacks

It requires pre-planned aggression, just like the Dive comp strategy

The Lucio player must be careful because, with his death, the very essence of this layout falls apart

The team must heal on time and be ready for strong defensive countermeasures

Double Bubble

Echo - a powerful Overwatch DPS for you comp
  • Zarya – Tank
  • Winston – Tank
  • Echo – DPS
  • Tracer – DPS
  • Brigitte – Healer

Zarya and Winston work well together, and heroes with good DPS will be suitable for their company. Zarya bubbles Winston when he dives with Tracer and Echo. If desired, Tracer can be replaced with Sombra. Winston will then use his bubble to separate enemies, blocking support from their tanks and DPS to facilitate kills on the enemy. Brigitte will perform well in the support role in this OW2 team comp, and you can also replace her with Zenyatta or Ana if desired.

With good coordinated team play, this layout is very strong

Requires skilled players for tanks and generally strong team play

Hamster Dive

Sombra
  • Wrecking Ball – Tank
  • Winston – Tank
  • Sombra – DPS
  • Genji – DPS
  • Mercy – Healer

Wrecking Ball is a very fun hero when used correctly. His strength lies in the fact that he is good at breaking into slow-moving Overwatch team comps. He can roll up to them, use his Pile Drive to stun the enemy, and thus allow the rest of the team to rush in and destroy the foe.

He should be paired with Winston, who can dive with him, as well as Sombra, who can use her hack to disable key enemy abilities. Mercy will also be indispensable since she has excellent mobility and can dive along with both tanks. The second attacking player can be Genji or Tracer, or, if you lack support, Lucio is perfect for this role.

Good and mobile pick against sedentary Overwatch comps

The Wrecking Ball player needs to actively rush in and force a fight, and the support needs to monitor the health of the hamster and be in the right place at the right time

Pure Offense Team Comp

Sojourn - strong DPS for any Overwatch combo
  • Junker Queen –Tank
  • Sojourn – DPS
  • Genji – DPS
  • Brigitte – Healer
  • Lucio – Healer

This Overwatch comp is designed to deal a huge amount of damage in a limited period. Junker Queen is a very strong tank if used timely and thoughtfully. Her high damage pairs well with heroes like Sojourn and Genji, who can blind the enemy and defeat them accordingly.

The key hero here will also be Lucio, as he can heal in a large radius and also give you a boost with the Speed Boost ability.

This comp is designed for high damage and aggressive attack

The team must constantly monitor Lucio since his abilities are key, as well as act in an organized manner and heal quickly

Traditional Dive

genji
  • Dva – Tank
  • Winston – Tank
  • Genji – DPS
  • Tracer – DPS
  • Mercy – Healer

The essence of this Overwatch 2 team comp is to jump on a target, destroy it, and then jump back again and move on to the next target. This is a very mobile composition, in which Dva and Winston coordinate the targets to dive on, and Mercy also dives with them as support. To attack, you need Genji and Tracer, who can easily dive alongside tanks.

A good mobile comp that is especially effective against slow heroes

The player must play well as a support and monitor the health of the team

Pharmercy

Mercy - healer for your Overwatch squad
  • Pharah – DPS
  • Mercy – Healer
  • Winston – Tank
  • Genji – DPS
  • Ana – Healer

The spamming power that Pharah provides is great for countering shields, especially when increasing damage. This Overwatch 2 team comp is great for any maps with a lot of tall buildings for cover, as well as most control maps, as they allow the duo to simply spam the point. This combination is quite flexible in terms of DPS and tank choices. The only thing that should not be changed is the support hero, Ana, so that the team has stable healing.

A universal combination with variability in the choice of DPS heroes is well-suited for control maps

Pharah and Mercy will be vulnerable if the enemy has experienced snipers and hitscan attackers

Rein-Zarya

Zarya
  • Reinhardt – Tank
  • Zarya – Tank
  • Sombra DPS
  • Ana – Healer
  • Zenyatta – Healer

Reinhardt + Zarya are one of the best Overwatch 2 team comps as tanks. Both tanks have powerful ultimates that can be rotated, and both tanks can use each other’s ultimates to farm their own ones. Zarya can regularly bubble Reinhardt to keep the charge high, so they pair well together.

Sombra is a great choice for the DPS role, as she can use her EMP in tandem with Earth Shatter of Reinhardt or Graviton Surge of Zarya.

Balanced combination with excellent armor and recovery

You need good team play so that tanks and heals work in pairs

Spam Comp

Hanzo
  • Echo – DPS
  • Hanzo – DPS
  • Zenyatta – Healer
  • Mercy – Healer
  • Orisa – Tank

The key characters of this Overwatch comp will be Echo and Hanzo. Echo is capable of dealing massive damage with her sticky bombs, and Hanzo’s arrows are perfect for hitting tanks.

This combo pairs well with support, which will boost your damage. Zenyatta is a great addition due to her ability to spam attacks and essentially works as a third DPS hero, helping Echo and Hanzo. Mercy is not only a good healer in this comp, but she can also buff the damage of Echo and Hanzo.

This is a great combo if the enemy relies heavily on shields or has slow heroes

Like any composition designed for aggression and a quick attack, this Overwatch 2 team comp can suffer from a lack of armor and requires coordinated team actions

All-Purpose Healing Squad

Junkrat
  • Soldier 76 – DPS
  • Junkrat – DPS
  • Roadhog – Tank
  • Mercy – Healer
  • Zenyatta – Healer

At one time, in the original Overwatch, five supports plus a tank was a good strategy that worked. In Overwatch 2, you can repeat a similar option. However, instead of all healers, we will rely on heroes that can self-heal, such as Soldier 76 with Biotic Field ability and Roadhog with his Take-a-Breather ability.

This team can be one of the most efficient Overwatch comps. Junkrat should be paired with Mercy to increase his damage and maintain his health while he pelts enemies with grenades and mines.

Good pick of heroes for a control match type

The healer must actively monitor the health of the team; there may be a lack of protection, but you can compensate for this by taking another tank to the team

Lacking Overwatch Team Members? Try GameTree

Whatever Overwatch 2 comp you choose, a large share of the effectiveness depends primarily on the coordination of the actions of all players. If you are tired of playing with strangers or you lack experienced players with specific skills, download GameTree! This is a gaming application for finding fellow players.

I love GameTree because it is a dedicated app for gamers with all the necessary features, including AI-based matchmaking, voice chat, integration with messengers, and much more. In GameTree, you can meet other players with the necessary skills and assemble the best Overwatch team comps.

Final Thoughts

The comps described above are the most common now in Overwatch 2, and some of them are time-tested. As developers make changes to heroes and nerf some things and strengthen others, it can always turn out that one comp begins to work worse than before, or unpopular Overwatch comps can suddenly become meta. I’ve outlined the most common and popular comps, so you should try them all. The game actively encourages experimentation and creative thinking when choosing your strategy, so the main thing is to assemble an effective and versatile team of well-matched players.

Overwatch 2 is an F2P, team-based first-person shooter developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It’s a sequel to Overwatch, with over 30 heroes, improved maps, and a 5v5 format with locked roles. The game includes several modes, both casual and ranked, and is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC. Although the game seemed promising at first, players, including myself, encountered huge problems. Overwatch 2 matchmaking looks absolutely terrible, and since many people wonder why is Overwatch 2 matchmaking so bad, I decided to write an article about this and share my opinion on what is wrong with this game and how it could be improved. About Overwatch 2 Matchmaking

Overwatch 2 has been facing criticism for its matchmaking system. Despite Blizzard’s efforts to improve the situation, players (including me!) are still dissatisfied with the quality of matches. The matchmaking system is one of the main aspects of this game, as it balances matches and rankings of the players. However, it seems that the system simply fails to do so.

On Reddit, there are thousands of messages about the problems with Overwatch 2 matchmaking. Here are just some of the quotes from active players:

“Comp at the end and at the beginning of any season, is madness. The summer vacations just make it worse with all those kids touching no grass and kicking our grown up asses 😂play at your own discretion.”

“Everyone knows this except blizzard , MM is simply shit, why I’m even play with those people??”

“This game is getting worse, the people are getting more insufferable and as a result everyone is angrier except the people who will pretend everything is ok no matter what. No sign it will get better you’re just supposed to accept it. 🤷‍♂️

Why are there so many complaints about the Overwatch 2 unranked matchmaking? Let’s dive deeper, and you’ll understand why.

How Does Overwatch 2 Matchmaking Work?

In order to unlock access to the Role Queue and Open Queue match selection modes, a new player must play 50 matches.

In the Role Queue, the player chooses what role they want to play in a given match. Each team has the following positions available: one Tank, two Damage Dealers, and two Supports.

In Open Queue, players do not need to specify a role before the start of the match. But, in this case, you may often have situations where you do not have Supports on your team or, for example, all players have chosen DD.

About Overwatch 2 MMR And SR

Players receive an individual Matchmaking Rank (MMR). This is a hidden value that approximately corresponds to the skills of each player. The game assigns a certain rank to the player. Then, at the beginning of each season, the player must win 5 matches or lose 15 matches in order to receive their starting rank. After that, to increase the rank, you need 5 victories or 15 defeats to decrease it.

There is also a player’s Skill Rating (SR). Within each rank, there are 5 divisions. Classic ones include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Also, Master and Grandmaster are considered the highest ranks. By playing in the ranking mode, you can earn points, for which some skins will become available to you.

So, SR refers more to the statistics of winning and losing matches. MMR is intended to more accurately reflect a player’s individual skill and is a hidden parameter.

Season 13 Updates

In Overwatch 2’s Season 13, several matchmaking updates were implemented to enhance the competitive experience:

  • Queue Time Reduction: Adjustments were made to decrease queue times for wide matches in Competitive Play.
  • Loss Streak Avoidance: The system’s loss streak avoidance feature was tuned down to prevent it from inadvertently increasing queue times in worst-case scenarios.
  • Role Delta Tuning: The matchmaking system now more closely matches players of similar ranks within the same roles, with a particular emphasis on the Tank role to ensure balanced matchups.
  • MMR Decay Modifiers: At higher ranks, modifiers related to Matchmaking Rating (MMR) decay, winning trends, losing trends, and calibration have been reduced. This change aims to prevent new accounts from climbing unfairly into the Top 500 without penalizing seasoned players.
  • Grouping Consideration: In higher-ranked matches, the matchmaking system now accounts for the benefits of pre-made groups when constructing matches, aiming to balance the inherent advantages of grouped players.

Despite these matchmaking updates in Overwatch 2 Season 13, many players remain dissatisfied. Feedback suggests that issues like skill gap discrepancies and uneven match quality persist, leaving players frustrated. While Blizzard’s adjustments aim to balance queue times, MMR decay, and role consistency, the community still reports mixed experiences, indicating that more improvements may be needed to fully satisfy the player base.

Player Problems With Overwatch 2 Matchmaking

The rating system looks simple and understandable for most players, especially beginners. But this is only at first glance when you haven’t played enough hours yet to catch the nuances. Experienced players are very critical of the unbalanced Overwatch 2 matchmaking, and there are many reasons for that.

  • The hidden system for calibrating your MMR rating is the first reason that causes great indignation among players. The game itself decides what rank to calibrate you to, and there are no specifics about how it actually works. When you play the game for quite a long time, you notice problems with the matchmaking balance, especially when you get into a series of losing streaks.
  • Another big problem is the very low number of players on the server, which makes Overwatch 2 matchmaking problems even more noticeable.
  • There are also a huge number of bugs in the game that break the balance. The developers often disable certain maps for a long time.
  • They also changed the On Fire system, which shows who is the MVP and which player made the most impact in the match. The main change is that now, you can’t see what affects the MVP indicator. Also, this status can be taken away when a player is killed. This is another change that experienced players perceive very negatively.

All these Overwatch 2 matchmaking changes, as well as the technical part and the developer’s decisions, mean that the number of players online will only fall. Thus, the game’s future looks vague.

Is The Overwatch 2 Ranking System Broken?

Yes, I and many other players agree that the Overwatch 2 ranking system is broken. No matter how well you play, all your matches will resemble a seesaw where you win a couple of rounds, then lose, and vice versa. Or, the matches are selected so that you can have a series of winning streaks and almost get to Platinum, and then lose 15 games in a row and lower your rank.

In other competitive games, you reach your rank quite quickly since you first play against players weaker than you, and then the game balances you at 50%, leaving you at a level equal to your skill. However, here, you are simply forced to play the game more. It doesn’t matter how well you play: if the game thinks you should lose in a match, you will have a team of weak players and a very strong enemy so you don’t deviate too much from 50%.

Overwatch 2’s Matchmaking Impact On The Community

The player community is outraged by such huge problems with the game. Gaming bloggers are actively expressing their emotions concerning the shortcomings of Overwatch 2 matchmaking on media platforms.

Another big problem that the game has caused is that higher-rated players (Diamond and higher) are taking screenshots of the usernames of players with lower ranks they’ve played with. They write insulting comments about such players, disparaging their skills. However, it is not the problem of weaker players since it is the system that has thrown them into a match with strong, high-level players. This mistake by the developers leads to the development of toxicity and abuse in the gaming community.

Possible Fix For The Problem

One of the main problems is the low number of players online. However, this can be fixed if Bizzard tries hard since many players loved the first part and enjoyed spending a lot of time in the game.

It is also necessary to improve the technical side of the game to fix all these bugs that break the balance, due to which the developers simply have to turn off the maps for a long time.

Also, one of the biggest issues, in my opinion, is Blizzard’s failure to fulfill its promise and the cancellation of a large-scale PVE mode with cooperative story missions of the game. This, in fact, was the main reason for the release of Overwatch 2 and my reason for waiting for this part. The developers are gradually adding PVE content from that very canceled mode, but there is very little of it, and it must be purchased separately.

As for Overwatch 2 matchmaking, maybe it would be even better to leave it as it was in the first part of the game. For example, it’s worth removing the invisible MMR or aligning it with your visible SR rating, just like in all similar competitive games. This would allow the system to select players of approximately the same level for matches. It’s also worth removing the balance of 50% and allowing players to play at their real level.

What The Developers Say

Blizzard has certainly responded to the many player complaints about Overwatch 2 matchmaking. The company has announced that it is focusing on creating a system where players of equal skill levels are matched to each role (Tank, Support, Damage). This means that even if a Platinum-level Damage player is paired up with a Silver-tier Tank player, both teams will have the same skill difference. Blizzard has stated that it will be working on this broken Overwatch 2 matchmaking system over the next few months, but significant changes need to be made before the launch of the next season.

With a new season just around the corner, we have some big promises from the Blizzard regarding the matchmaking system, for exmple:

  • The competitive play system will be updated based on feedback to better show how and why your rank changes after each match.
  • You will now see your rank update after every competitive match, along with modifiers that explain factors impacting the change like defeating a favored team.
  • To start fresh with the gameplay changes this season, there will be 10 new placement matches to determine your starting rank after a reset of all players’ current ranks.
  • Placement matches are high stakes and your performance will greatly impact your new rank. You’ll see a predicted starting rank after each placement match.
  • You only get one chance at your seasonal placement matches so pick your best heroes and focus up because these games matter a lot for your initial rank.

Tired Of Constant Defeats? Play As A Well-coordinated Team!

Despite everything said above, you can enjoy the game and improve your rank if you already have a team of five motivated players. If you don’t have such a team and, like me, are annoyed by the current Overwatch 2 matchmaking system, I recommend that you use the Overwatch LFG feature and find teammates on GameTree.

This app allows video game lovers to meet other players and agree to play together. Artificial intelligence will select gaming friends for you with similar skills and preferences, and, believe me, it will do it much better than Blizzard’s system! By assembling a well-coordinated team, you can enjoy playing Overwatch and develop your characters. Try out GameTree, and you’ll see the difference!

Final Thoughts

There’s no game like Overwatch, Overwatch 2 is still a unique game with tons of potential and a nice visual style. This franchise has a very large base of loyal fans, and it is sad to see how the latest decisions of the developers resemble one step forward and two steps back. Matchmaking in the game leaves much to be desired and causes a lot of resentment among players. However, if the developers listen to the voices of loyal fans, they can still improve the situation.
