The same research says that 60% of gamers are itching to play with more chill, less toxic players. It was rated twice as high as second place. Plus, I must admit that the most toxic players are those from the post-Soviet countries (Russia, Ukraine, etc.). They are literally kings of toxicity, and every European or American would tell you the same. Counter-strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) And CS2

Sure, Counter-Strike games can be a blast, but let’s be real – the Global Offensive community is straight-up toxic. No matter how much fun the game itself is, you’re constantly dealing with a hot mess, especially when it comes to ranked. From kids screaming into their mics to players hurling abuse at each other, it’s total chaos. And don’t even get me started on team killers, derankers, and griefers – they’re everywhere.

Honestly, if you want to enjoy this series, you need to round up some friends and stick together. Otherwise, you’re in for a rough ride, thanks to the childish community.

League Of Legends (LoL)

The League of Legends is perhaps the most toxic video game with pretty much the worst game community; even IBM’s AI flagged it as one of the worst. From my experience, diving into League feels like they combined all the frustrating parts of Dota and CS2 into one game. Every match is like rolling the dice nine times with its unforgiving mechanics. Plus, there’s no voice chat, just filtered text chat where toxic players get crafty with their rage.

Call Of Duty (CoD)

If you wonder, “What is the most toxic game?” you may name CoD and will be quite right. CoD’s competitive scene is notorious for its toxicity. I’ve experienced it firsthand – banter can quickly escalate into verbal abuse, with racist, sexist, and homophobic slurs thrown around. “Swatting” incidents have made headlines among CoD players, and griefing is rampant, with players intentionally ruining the game for others. It’s an unsafe environment for both seasoned players and newcomers. 

Dota 2

From players abusing voice chat to straight-up griefing, Dota has it all. Some call it even the most toxic game of all time. What sets Dota apart is how players are always one step ahead of the devs. I’ve seen some crafty players dodge AFK detection by going invisible near a creep wave. And when someone’s ticked off, they’ll waste all sorts of items just to make a point. With voice and text chat always just a keystroke away, you’re bound to hear some colorful language.

Let’s not forget about the ease of making burner accounts and smurfing – it’s like everyone’s trying to out-toxic each other. Dota definitely takes the cake as one of the most toxic gaming communities out there.

Valorant

Valorant is definitely among the top 10 most toxic games. It’s like a toxic wasteland out there, with players dropping bigoted remarks, acting all sexist toward female gamers, and performing like they’re top dogs while dissing their teammates.

There have been articles and Twitter threads blowing up about this mess, and get this – even one of Riot’s devs got hit with this toxic behavior. Hmmm, looks like we’re in a loop.

Rust

Rust is notorious for its toxic environment right from the get-go. I mean, the whole point of the game is to raid and loot other players’ hard-earned stuff, which naturally breeds a lot of toxicity. It’s like a vicious cycle where everyone’s out to get each other, and that can bring out the worst in people.

But it’s not just about stealing and destroying – Rust is a real roller coaster of emotions. One moment, you’re celebrating a successful raid, and the next, you’re raging because someone just wiped out your entire base. It’s a constant battle between triumph and frustration that can really mess with your head.

Rocket League

Here, you’ve got preset messages on hotkeys, and that’s about it. Text chat is an option, but in the fast-paced chaos of Rocket League, it’s hardly practical. The big difference? Rocket League is all about teamwork.

In the “Minecraft” community, you’ve got a mix of folks. Some team up to build amazing stuff, while others are out to cause chaos, especially on public servers. These troublemakers not only spam the chat with junk but also go around trolling and wrecking other players’ hard work. It’s so bad that “griefing” has become a household term, all thanks to the antics in Minecraft. Trust me, as someone who’s been on the receiving end of griefing, it’s a real headache for server admins and regular players alike in the most toxic video games.

Grand Theft Auto 5 RP

The GTA 5 roleplaying community presents a unique brand of toxicity beneath its immersive facade. While popular servers enforce strict rules, power dynamics often lead to problematic behavior. Every player should also pull their weight. One rotten apple can mess things up, but hey, one positive player can change the whole vibe. Let’s aim to be that positive force, right? I mean:

• Keep it respectful and sportsmanlike when you’re in the game.
• Embrace diversity and welcome everyone, no matter where they’re from.
• Don’t just brush it off – report that toxic behavior and help clean up the community.

Last year was marked by a bunch of long-awaited releases. This year won’t be boring either, as an incredible number of large and small, long and short, epic and boutique games releasing in 2024 await us. For example, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is perhaps the most anticipated release of this year from Ukrainian developers. The latest trailers promise not only beautiful landscapes of the Zone but also an interesting plot and characters. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a long-awaited continuation of the fantasy RPG that has become a cult title, not least thanks to the battles with huge monsters. This year, we will also see a continuation of the remake of the cult Final Fantasy 7 (1997) called Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. In general, there are many interesting games coming out in 2024. So, let’s start with the list of the most anticipated projects that will be released over the next six months.

January

January has begun with an updated PS5 version of The Last of Us Part 2. The developers promise that a little more time will pass between episode releases, and the add-ons themselves will ultimately provide more content. We look forward to a new rebirth and continuation of the franchise, which has been delighting fans for many years now. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League

This new action shooter game releasing soon will take place in the same universe as the Batman: Arkham series. The game follows four supervillains, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark, who are gathered by Amanda Waller and sent to Metropolis to stop the alien invader Brainiac and kill the Justice League members. The open-world design will allow players to roam freely and explore Metropolis both solo and in a four-player co-op.

Skull & Bones

• Release Date: February 16

A multiplayer game releasing in 2024 about epic ship battles and a pirate setting in the waters of the Indian Ocean will finally be released soon! The player can customize their pirate ship and go into the open world, alone or with other players. In addition to a variety of PVE content, players will also have access to PVP mode in controversial waters. Pirate-themed games are rarely released, so all fans of this setting should not miss Skull & Bones.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

The Final Fantasy 7 remake was more than just a reimagining of the 1997 classic; it sought to reinvent the characters, narrative, and locations we’ve adored for decades. And now we have the long-awaited continuation of the remake called Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Square Enix did a tremendous job in the remake and not only changed the graphics and completely rethought the combat, which became more dynamic, but also rewrote the story in a new way. That is why the upcoming game no longer seems predictable to those who are familiar with the original game. 

The developers managed to attract a new audience but not disappoint old fans and allowed them to look at the well-known story differently. Therefore, we are looking forward to continuing the adventure of Cloud and his allies. Those who haven’t had time to get acquainted with this wonderful game should start with the first part of the remake, released in 2020 since Rebirth is a direct continuation of the story of the game coming out this year.

The day and night cycle, introducing a real-time aspect to the game, made the world feel alive and dynamic. Returning to the regions of Kanto and Johto with updated graphics and features was like a dream come true. The sense of journeying across two vast regions to collect all 251 Pokémon was exhilarating, filled with nostalgia yet brimming with new discoveries. The addition of the Pokéwalker accessory brought a delightful real-world aspect to training and bonding with my Pokémon. HeartGold and SoulSilver masterfully recaptured the magic of the originals while creating new, cherished memories of their own.

20. Spongebob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom

This is a 3D platformer, a remake of the 2003 game based on the animated series of the same name. According to the plot, the insidious Plankton is once again trying to steal the Krabby Patty recipe, and an army of robots must help him. Naturally, the plan fails in the most comical way, as the robots were mistakenly given orders to disobey their master and went to destroy Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob and his friends have to defend their home from a horde of robots. This game perfectly conveys the spirit of the cartoon and is filled with a lot of references, and you will also meet all the famous characters and recognizable locations.

19. Baldo: The Guardian Owls

Action-adventure RPG with lots of puzzles in the style of Studio Ghibli cartoons. You travel through the open world in real time, fight enemies and various bosses, and explore all sorts of intricate dungeons that hide many puzzles. In terms of gameplay, the game is very reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda series of games.

18. Hollow Knight

This game is considered to be one of the most atmospheric and high-quality metroidvanias. The game follows the adventures of a nameless knight in the long-abandoned insect kingdom of Hallownest. The player will have to explore a huge world, but due to the peculiarities of this genre, they will gain access to certain zones only by defeating certain bosses and receiving improvements obtained from them.

17. Cozy Grove

This is a life simulator on an ever-changing island. Your hero is a ghostly scout who specializes in finding restless spirits and bringing them into harmony with nature. The gameplay is a session-based adventure with crafting and finding items. The hero lands on the pier and begins to explore the world, complete quests from ghosts, and engage in useful gathering and crafting. The time in the game flows in accordance with the real world, so all activities are tied to the time of day.

16. No Man’s Sky

This is an action-adventure game with an open world and survival elements in a virtual procedurally-generated universe. The player must advance through the plot, engage in crafting and trading, and explore outer space and a huge variety of planets. Each planet is unique and procedurally generated, and information about all star systems, planets, and life forms is shared and updated with other players. Moreover, each object stores the name of the player who first opened it.

15. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This title is the fifth main title in the Elder Scrolls series that takes place in the northern province of Tamriel called Skyrim. It’s a snowy region inspired by Norse mythology and Viking aesthetics. The game won the Best Game of 2011 award and remains very popular to this day. This is my definite recommendation for all RPG fans, with an excellent plot, a huge variety of exciting quests, and dungeons and dragons. The game probably won’t be suitable for kids, but, it’s definitely one of the best Nintendo Switch games for adults.

14. Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Double Pack

This famous series of Japanese RPGs is about collecting and fighting pocket monsters. The main numbered parts of the series come out in pairs and have a common appearance and one plot. The differences include certain types of unique Pokemons and minor changes to some quests. Thus, in order to collect all types of Pokemon, players of different versions need to interact with each other and exchange. It is also the first game in the series with a large and completely open world and modified combat mechanics. 

13. Signalis

Signalis is an atmospheric survival horror in the style of retro graphics of games from the PS1 era. Critics have named it to be one of the best solo Switch games created by an indie studio. The main character, the android Elster, finds herself in an abandoned space colony after a spaceship crash and is looking for her pilot companion, simultaneously figuring out what happened in the colony. I really love this game for its intricate, surreal plot and atmosphere.

12. Persona 5 Royal

It is a very stylish JRPG, part of the famous Megami Tensei franchise. The plot revolves around a high school student who moves to Tokyo and settles in a cafe with a friend of his parents. During the day, the main character attends school and leads an ordinary life. Still, one day, everything changes when he finds himself in an alternative reality, which is the collective unconscious of people and their evil thoughts. The main character, in company with friends, will have to solve not only his everyday problems but also change the dark subconscious of people and unravel a conspiracy.

11. Ori: The Collection

The best 1-player Switch games that were once exclusive to Microsoft platforms are now here for you! The collection consists of two platform games with Metroidvania elements in a very colorful hand-drawn style. The story follows the adventures of a brave little spirit as it solves puzzles and fights bosses, accompanied by a stylish orchestral sound design.

10. Super Mario Odyssey

This is my favorite platformer about a famous plumber who travels through different open worlds. The plot is typical for other games in the Mario series, which is considered to be one of the best solo Nintendo Switch games. The gameplay here is a best-in-class platformer with a bunch of different gameplay mechanics, secrets, hidden locations, and very nice visuals. Like all Mario platformers, this game seems simple at first glance, but by the end of the game, finding secrets can challenge the player. 

9. Death’s Door

This is a game in the action and metroidvania genres, set in an isometric perspective with well-thought-out level design and difficulty balance. The player controls a small raven who works as a reaper of death and must collect the souls of the dead for a bureaucratic office in the afterlife. The game is filled with puzzles and features for the metroidvania genre and boss battles.

8. Pokemon Sword and Shield

This is the main numbered part of the series about pocket monsters. The game has a very nice graphical style and an engaging story mode. It is a great way to get acquainted with what the games in the series looked like before Scarlet/Violet. The player will have to collect Pokemon, upgrade them, and fight with other trainers in the world of Galar, similar to England.

7. Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing is a life simulator and the second best one-player Switch games in terms of sales. The player moves to an uninhabited island, which they arrange to their liking. While exploring the island in real-time, the player will have to complete quests. They will obtain items and resources, catch living creatures, grow plants, and communicate with anthropomorphic animals. I love this meditative adventure with nice graphics and addictive gameplay.

6. Cuphead

Cuphead is a platformer featuring continuous boss battles in 1930s cartoon style. The game demands player skill and offers co-op play for two, in addition to solo adventures. It’s a nice game to play on Nintendo Switch in your free time.

5. Dungeon of the Endless

Dungeon of the Endless is a game in the roguelike genre with tower defense elements. The player takes on the role of a survivor of a space prison ship whose escape capsule has crashed on the surface of an unknown planet. To escape, they will have to guide the energy crystal through several floors, each of which is filled with many hostile creatures. The player will explore randomly generated levels to collect resources to power various rooms and build turrets to fend off enemies.

4. Monster Hunter: Rise

It is a hardcore action/RPG about hunting monsters and improving equipment using parts obtained from monsters in huge locations in the world. The style of this game is similar to ancient Japan. You can play solo, as well as in local co-op or online co-op for up to 4 players. The Monster Hunter series, like the Mario games and the adventures of Link, have always been among the best Switch games for solo play.

3. Bayonetta™ 3

Here, you will find the continuation of the adventures of the witch, who fights against various enemies using a combination of melee attacks and gunplay. It’s a stylish game with excellent visuals and an interesting plot with elements of humor. I also like the thought-out combo system and memorable enemies and bosses.

2. The Legend of Zelda™: Tears of the Kingdom

This is a continuation of Link’s adventures in a huge open world, in which we now also have floating islands and a whole huge world underground available for exploration. It is a unique single-handed game with well-thought-out physics of the environment and an incredible atmosphere. The developers have added many new mechanics for solving puzzles. The Legends of Zelda™ became the best single-player Switch game of all time, according to review aggregator OpenCritic. I definitely wouldn’t recommend you pass this game up. Plus, it’s available for offline play.

1. Metroid™ Dread

It’s the continuation of the series that gave birth to the metroidvania genre. The game is a sequel to Metroid Fusion 2002. Bounty hunter Samus Aran visits a planet called ZDR, where she encounters new and dangerous robot enemies. It is a  hardcore action game for solo players with features typical for the metroidvania genre. Stealth elements have also been added, as Samus cannot easily deal with robots in battle and must avoid them until she finds a solution to how to defeat them.

The Xbox Online Multiplayer Games You Will Definitely Enjoy

I’ve seen people on Reddit asking for recommendations for fun Xbox games to play with friends, and honestly with the Xbox Game Pass, multiplayer games of all genres are available, along with hundreds of single-player titles. However, among all this variety of games, I decided to highlight 20 games that would be interesting to play online with friends or fellow gamers found at GameTree. 

Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite is a first-person shooter in a space sci-fi setting, the sixth main part of the Halo series. It tells the story of the adventures of the supersoldier Master Chief and his fight against the Exiled. Unlike previous parts of the series, the multiplayer mode here is free. For the first time in the series, there is the ability to play in teams of 12v12, in addition to other classic modes. It is still an excellent online shooter, and I often love to spend a couple of hours in the evenings in Halo Infinite.

Dead By Daylight

Dead by Daylight is a standout Xbox multiplayer game that captivates with its intense, asymmetrical horror gameplay. The tense 4v1 dynamic, where survivors must cooperate to escape the Killer’s clutches, creates an exhilarating experience. The diverse cast of unique Killers and Survivors, along with the atmospheric environments, heighten the sense of dread and unpredictability. It’s a game with great potential, interesting gameplay, and matchmaking issues. However, it is also an excellent fighting game for casual gatherings. MK and SF have been my favorite fighting games since childhood, which still have a high level of quality. Diablo 4 is one of the best Xbox multiplayer games, offering a deep, addictive loot-driven gameplay, seamless cooperative experience, and expansive, atmospheric world. Diablo 4 is suitable for mature audiences, with its dark, gothic themes and intense, action-packed combat.
