Fortnite really shook things up in the battle royale scene and took the top spot. Now, Epic Games is diving into tactical competitive first-person shooters. Let’s check out how the Fortnite Ballistic ranked mode works and how you can make your way into the part of Fortnite.

💡 Highlights:

  • The Ranked mode in Fortnite Ballistic is already available.
  • The rank structure mirrors Fortnite Battle Royale and Zero Build.
  • There are eight Fortnite Ballistic ranks overall, with the first five divided into 3 sub-levels each.
  • Matches are 5v5 in a first-person format with skill-based matchmaking.
  • Advancement depends on match outcomes, individual performance, kills, assists, and wins/losses.
  • There are no current rank rewards as the mode is in early access.

Is Ranked Available In Ballistic Mode?

All Fortnite Ballistic Ranks List

Epic Games decided not to reinvent the wheel and introduce a separate ranking system for the Fortnite Ballistic mode. Instead, they used the usual ranking system used in Battle Royale and Zero Build. Each level has three additional rank tiers, I-III, except for the last highest Fortnite Ballistic ranks – Elite, Champion, and Unreal. Here is what the list of rankings looks like in Fortnite Ballistic:

  • Bronze (I, II, III)
  • Silver (I, II, III)
  • Gold (I, II, III)
  • Platinum (I, II, III)
  • Diamond (I, II, III)
  • Elite
  • Champion
  • Unreal

How Fortnite Ballistic Ranked Works

The ranked mode here replicates not only the rank structure of the main Fortnite game modes but also how the Fornite Ballistic ranking system works. All players start in the Bronze division and move up through 8 Fortnite Ballistic ranks to reach the coveted highest one, Unreal. Matchmaking is skill-based, and players are placed in a lobby with teammates having a similar rank and skill rating. The battles are held in a 5v5 first-person format.

How To Start Playing

Fortnite Ballistic Ranked is now available to all players, so anyone can try out this mode without any problem. To do this, you need to:

  • Launch Fortnite and make sure all updates are installed.
  • In the main menu, navigate to the official developer playlists section, where you will see Ballistic Ranked.
  • Enter and choose whether you want to queue solo or as a full squad of 5 players.

All players can start playing ranked Fortnite Ballistic without restrictions.

Factors That Impact Rank Progression

Advancing through the Fortnite Ballistic ranks is primarily based on the outcome of the match – whether it was a win or a loss – as well as the individual performance and contribution of the player in that match.

I have compiled a list of factors that influence the rank progression from most to least significant:

  • Your current rank
  • Rounds won
  • Rounds lost
  • Number of kills
  • Number of assists

Leaving On-going Match

Players who have experienced technical difficulties have enough time to reconnect to the game and continue the match. However, if it was an intentional leave or a systematic one, the following penalties will be applied to the player in addition to losing a certain percentage of the rating:

Number of LeavesBan Period
11 min
210 min
330 min
41 hour
52 hours
66 hours
7+12 hours

Fortnite Ballistic Ranked Rewards

There are currently no ranked rewards in Fortnite Ballistic. It may be too early to tell since the mode is still in early access and hasn’t received much content yet. Anyway, the developers haven’t announced whether they are planning separate rewards for this mode or not.

How To Rank Up In Fortnite Ballistic?

I’ve been playing Fortnite Ballistic with my friends for a while now, and here’s what I can recommend for rank progression in this game:

  • This mode requires good teamwork and coordination of joint actions, which is important for both the attacking and defending sides. The game mode many different tactics for good team play. You won’t be able to simply run around and shoot at high ranks in Fortnite Ballistic if you are up against a well-coordinated team.
  • Detailed knowledge of the map, understanding the enemy’s movements, and timely response to these actions are the foundation for good and effective team play.
  • The individual mechanical skills of the player also matter a lot. Team play will always be more important than marksmanship skills, but you also need to hit the enemy faster than them, so train your aim regularly.
  • You need to study all the available weapons and spray control in this game mode and train it regularly. It is also important to consider that you shoot more accurately when you are not moving.
  • You should know how to use special utilities called Flex Gadgets correctly and not forget to exploit them and buy Instant Shield.

Final Thoughts

Fortnite Ballistic has a solid setup, a cool concept, and a ranking system with eight levels, plus a skill-based matchmaking system. The developers just need to give players more reasons to keep playing by adding rewards for both ranked and casual modes, like what you find in other competitive games like Fortnite. I’m really looking forward to diving back into Fortnite Ballistic and seeing how this game mode grows and changes over time.

The Fortnite community has been asking for a first-person version of the game for a long time. Well, it seems the developers have heard them, although they offered something different, which was still a pleasant surprise for players. With the release of the Ballistic mode, Fortnite smoothly enters the territory of tough tactical shooters. I have already managed to play the new game mode, and in this article, I will tell you what Fortnite Ballistic is and how to play it.

What Is Fortnite Ballistic?

Fortnite Ballistic is a new first-person game mode in Fortnite that is totally different from the classic game modes like Battle Royale or Zero Build. The Fortnite Ballistic gameplay is closer to tactical shooters like CS2 or the Call of Duty series. Here, players are divided into two teams, do not have a respawn per round, and must plant or defuse a bomb, eliminating the opposing team along the way.

Release Date And Early Access

Fortnite Ballistic came out on December 11th, 2024, on all available gaming platforms and is currently in early access. So, if you wonder if Fortnite Ballistic is out, I have great news for you – you can already play this game mode!

How To Play Fortnite Ballistic?

Anyone familiar with tactical competitive shooters will quickly understand what Fortnite Ballistic is. And for fans of games like classic Fortnite, for whom this mode will be new, I have prepared some useful information.

Gameplay

So, what is Fortnite Ballistic in terms of gameplay? It is a tactical first-person shooter, the playing style of which will be most familiar to all fans of the Counter-Strike series. Teams are divided into 5 by 5: attackers and defenders. The goal of the attackers is to plant a bomb in one of 2 places on the map, which is called the Rift Point Device here, and the goal of the defenders is to prevent this. As in Counter-Strike, the round ends either with the explosion of the bomb or the death of all players on the team, and there are no respawns during the round. After 6 rounds, the attacking and defending teams switch places. The winner is the team that first scores 7 victories in the match.

Weapons

There are currently 9 weapons available in Fortnite Ballistic, each with a different price tag and available to purchase before a round starts. I’ve compiled them all into one table for my Fortnite Ballistic review.

Unranked & Ranked Modes

In the Ballistic mode, both ranked, and unranked games are available, which are not particularly different in terms of gameplay. Unranked matches are great for both getting to know this game mode and just playing for fun with friends. Players can safely leave this game mode at any time without receiving a penalty and will be replaced by other players.

For those who like competitive games, there is a Ranked mode. In the Ranked lobby, the matchmaking system will select opponents based on the average rank of your team and not the player with the highest rank in the group, as happens in Battle Royale. How much of the rank you gain or lose at the end of the match will depend on your current rank, rounds won and lost, as well as the number of kills and assists.

Note:

In case of leaving the match, the player has 5 minutes to reconnect. Otherwise, they will receive a penalty and will not be able to join ranked games for some time.

About Fortnite Ballistic Maps

The game mode is currently in early access, and the only Fortnite Ballistic map available to players is Skyline 10, so be patient and keep an eye on the game updates. If you want to explore other maps, including those that help you gain XP quickly, then switch to the classic Fortnite modes – there are many interesting maps waiting for you there.

 Fortnite Ballistic Map Skyline 10

Will Fortnite Ballistic Be Permanent?

There has been no official information from Epic Games yet on whether the Ballistic mode in Fortnite will become permanent. At the moment, the developers are doing everything for the quick release of the full version. However, despite the early access, the Ranked mode has already appeared in Ballistic, and I think this tells us that the developers did not plan for Ballistic game mode to be a temporary event. In addition, a lot will depend on the players themselves. If this mode is not popular with the Fortnite community, then at some point, the developers may really stop supporting it. Even though, the mod is getting mixed reviews now, personally, I really like this mode, so I urge you to try it out so that it is definitely not removed!

Tips To Master Fortnite Ballistic

In general, the standard Fortnite tips will help you grow your skills. But I will also add a couple of recommendations here that will help you understand what Fortnite Ballistic is and how to play it efficiently:

  • Understanding the map, the names of its locations, and how you and the enemy move is essential for winning matches. Moreover, now it is even easier since only one map is available, Skyline 10.
  • Team play and coordination of actions are extremely important. Your tactics and strategies for the attacking and defending sides will differ and constantly change, adapting to the enemy’s actions.
  • Good aim and correct crosshair placement will also improve your game. Always keep the sight at the level of the shoulders and head of the expected enemy at every moment of the game. This way, you will need less time to adjust the sight when the enemy appears.
  • Study the spray of all weapons and practice controlling the spray of each of them.
  • Remember that shooting on the move is less accurate than if you are standing still and is better if you are in a crouching position.

So, Is Fortnite Ballistic Good And Worth Playing?

This mode is definitely interesting and pretty cool, plus it’s been done really well. While fans of CS2 or Call of Duty probably won’t rush to check out Fortnite with the new Ballistic mode, it’s a fun addition for those who already play Fortnite. It shakes up the gameplay and gives you something different to enjoy with friends. In this review, I break down how to play Fortnite Ballistic, and honestly, I think it’s the best thing Epic Games has released in 2024. Definitely give it a shot!

  • These maps have different styles, including survival, combat, team strategy, and passive activities.
  • Many maps combine XP earning with opportunities to improve aiming or building.

With a new season of Fortnite dropping, everyone is looking to level up their Battle Pass and snag all the Fortnite rewards. But XP grinding in regular matches can be super slow. That’s where creative maps for XP come in handy. These maps come in all sorts of styles, but the best part is they’re a fast and easy way to rack up XP. I’ve put together a list of the best Fortnite XP maps out there, including a few that I like to play myself to practice a bit, earn XP, and get better at Fortnite. They’re a blast, even if you’re not just focused on getting XP!

Want to Level Up?

In Fortnite, teamwork is the key, try GameTree to find players you can rely on!

Best XP Maps In Fortnite To Gain Levels Quickly

In the table below, I have collected some of the best Fortnite XP maps and their codes. These custom maps both give the maximum amount of XP during the game and are interesting in terms of gameplay. I’ll give you the lowdown on each map below.

Map NameIsland Code
Zombieland9369-6922-8408
Sniper One Shot Battle0534-2333-5444
Lumberjack Heroes7154-1898-4800

TikToker Tycoon2944-0473-3646
Cars Mega Ramp7664-4585-8324
Crazyy Red Vs. Blue2898-7886-8847

Zombieland

Zombieland is a very popular Fortnite XP map where you can earn a lot of XP. This is a classic mode where you have to fight off waves of zombies, and with each new wave, the difficulty increases. The longer you hold out, the more XP you will earn. The cool thing about this game mode is that you can play solo and don’t have to deal with any complicated stuff. Just hop in, have some fun, and take on waves of zombies. You’ll rack up experience in no time!

Tip:

Killing zombies will give you XP and gold coins that can be spent on weapons, but if you accumulate 10,000 coins and activate Blood Moon, you will get a nice boost to the XP you gain.

Sniper One Shot Battle

One of the best XP maps in Fortnite for those who want to not only earn experience points but also practice their aim. In this game mode, players can try out various sniper rifles from different seasons. In addition, the feature of this mode is a one-hit kill. Therefore, this is a very dynamic map that will allow you to practice your sniper rifle shooting skills and pump up your mechanical skills. And, as a bonus, you will earn a decent amount of XP after a couple of hours of gaming.

Tip:

TiEarn XP simply by playing the game mode and improving your aiming skill.

Lumberjack Heroes

If you want a more meditative and measured gameplay but still get a lot of XP, then Lumberjack Heroes is for you. You need to chop down trees – that’s all! Wood in this mode is a currency with which you will pump up your abilities, unlock new regions, and thus progress through this game mode. In addition to chopping down trees, you can get various pets and fight bosses later in this game.

Tip:

Activating the golden tree and getting eggs from the secret area behind the waterfall in Fortnite gives the most XP.

Troll Bed Wars

This is another Fortnite map that gives you a lot of XP. You and your team need to upgrade and protect your base from the enemy team, which will be doing the same. The main goal is to destroy the enemy base and stop the respawn of enemy players. You start on an empty base, with only a bed and a place to mine wood. Then, as you progress, you upgrade the base, get to areas on the map with better resources, improve your base, buy better weapons, and not let the enemy do it.

Tip:

During the game, you will receive the coveted XP by purchasing new weapons and ammunition and opening new items at your base.

The Pit – Free for All

This is a deathmatch mode where you can choose any weapon available in the game. In the center of the room, there is a pit leading to the arena where the fights occur. After death, players are instantly revived, and different amounts of XP are given for almost everything – winning, losing, killing an opponent with a headshot, and much more.

Tip:

This is a good XP map in Fortnite for practicing, even if XP is not your main goal, as you can work on your aim and building skills here.

TikToker Tycoon

The essence of the farming experience on this Fortnite XP map is that the player continuously shoots at the box and gets XP for it. Instead of reloading, switch to the next weapon slot; this way, you can extend the continuous shooting and earn a lot of XP very quickly. In addition, you will receive a bonus XP just for being on the map.

Tip:

Once you stop getting XP from the box, you should exit the map and re-enter.

Cars Mega Ramp

Cars Mega Ramp is one of the best XP maps in Fortnite with simple and rather passive gameplay. In this map, you go down a large ramp in a car and get XP for it. The further you go, the more XP you get.

Tip:

As soon as you enter the map, you will receive bonus XP.

Crazyy Red Vs. Blue

Another map where you can not only earn XP but also train your skills, this time in a team. On this map, players are divided into two teams of 10 players on each side and can choose any weapon. In order to get XP on this Fortnite map, players need to kill players of the enemy team. In case of death, players are quickly revived, which makes the process dynamic.

Tip:

This mode is well suited for training both team play and individual aim.

Best AFK XP Maps

Map NameIsland Code
Prop Hunt XP6970-4415-2339
Creative AFK Hub8704-1245-3898

Prop Hunt XP

Map Code: 6970-4415-2339

This Prop Hunt XP map has become a favorite in the Fortnite community for AFK grinding. The map features multiple zones where players can hide as props while earning passive XP. The creator regularly updates it to maintain compatibility with the latest Fortnite patches, ensuring consistent XP gains. The map includes additional interactive elements for when you’re actively playing, but its true value lies in the passive XP generation.

AFK Spots and Methods:

  • The “Safe Room” located in the basement area allows for continuous XP generation without interference from other players;
  • The “XP Vault” on the second floor has hidden corners where players can remain undetected;
  • For best results, find a small prop (like a book or vase), hide in a corner near XP generators, and secure your position;
  • Entering the code “AFKMODE” in the console unlocks additional passive XP zones.

Average XP While Inactive:

  • Approximately 12,000-15,000 XP per hour (during normal XP rates);
  • Up to 30,000 XP per hour during Supercharged XP weekends;
  • The map has a daily cap of about 100,000 XP before diminishing returns.

Creative AFK Hub

Map Code: 8704-1245-3898

The Creative AFK Hub is specifically designed for passive XP farming with minimal setup required. Unlike traditional XP maps, this hub focuses exclusively on AFK mechanics, offering multiple zones with varying XP rates. The minimalist design reduces device count, resulting in better performance on all platforms. The creator maintains a Discord channel where they announce updates whenever Epic adjusts XP rates.

Setup Instructions:

  1. Load into the map and wait for all resources to initialize (about 30 seconds)
  2. Navigate to the “AFK Setup Station” marked with a glowing blue beacon
  3. Interact with the control panel and select your preferred AFK duration
  4. Place your character on one of the designated AFK platforms (marked with yellow X’s)
  5. For maximum XP, equip any Battle Pass items that provide XP boosts
  6. Optional: Enter the command “/afkboost” in the chat for a 10-minute XP rate increase

Safety Considerations:

  • Avoid using third-party software or hardware to prevent disconnects, as this violates Fortnite’s Terms of Service
  • The map employs legitimate XP mechanics, but excessive usage (8+ hours daily) may trigger automated system flags
  • Regularly check Epic’s policy updates on Creative XP, as guidelines can change between seasons
  • Use the built-in “Safe Mode” option which automatically adjusts XP rates to stay within Epic’s acceptable thresholds
  • Consider alternating between different AFK maps to prevent pattern recognition by anti-exploitation systems

Best Times to Play XP Maps

The timing of your XP grinding sessions can significantly impact your leveling efficiency. Here are the optimal times to play Fortnite XP maps:

Weekend XP Boost Windows (Friday-Sunday)

During most weekends, Fortnite implements subtle XP multipliers that aren’t explicitly announced. Players typically see 10-15% higher XP rates between 7 PM and 11 PM in their local time zones. This pattern has been consistent across recent seasons, making weekend evenings prime time for XP farming.

Post-Update Opportunities (First 24-48 Hours)

After major game updates (typically Tuesdays), XP rates often experience temporary increases before being normalized. The first 24-48 hours following an update provide an excellent window to capitalize on potentially higher XP yields before any hotfixes are applied.

Supercharged XP Events

When Fortnite activates Supercharged XP (indicated by the yellow glow around your XP bar), immediately prioritize your XP map sessions. These events multiply your XP gains by 2-4x and typically occur:

– After missed daily challenges

– During special promotional weekends

– At the beginning of new seasonal content

Off-Peak Server Hours (2 AM – 5 AM Local Time)

Playing during server off-peak hours can improve XP map performance. With fewer players straining the Creative servers, maps tend to run more smoothly with fewer disconnections, allowing for more consistent XP accumulation, especially for AFK methods.

Season Transition Periods

The final week of a season and the first week of a new season often feature adjusted XP rates to help players complete battle passes. Many XP maps perform exceptionally well during these transition periods, sometimes yielding up to 25% more XP than during mid-season periods.

Double XP Weekends

Epic occasionally announces official Double XP weekends, typically coinciding with holidays or major in-game events. These explicitly announced boosts stack with the natural weekend increases, creating the single most efficient time to grind XP maps.

  • A Fortnite clan is a gaming community with its own name, logo, and rules, led by a clan leader and deputies.
  • Players join clans to connect with others, improve their skills, participate in raids, and progress faster in the game.
  • You can either create a Fortnite clan or join an existing one.
  • Clans can be found via Discord, Reddit, dedicated websites, or gaming apps like GameTree.
  • Managing a clan and being an active clan member are a lot like work, requiring some level of commitment and responsibility.

A lot of people think that gamers are just introverted folks who’d rather play games than hang out with others. But that is far from the truth! For many of us, including me, cooperative games like Fortnite are all about finding a sense of community, making friends, and having fun together. That’s why so many players join Fortnite clans, which bring together people with similar goals. If you’ve been playing the game and are wondering how to make a Fortnite clan or to join one, I’ve got some easy tips to share. Let’s dive in!

What Is A Fortnite Clan?

A clan in Fortnite is like a community of gamers who team up and share a common passion for the game. Each clan has its own name, logo, and tag that members proudly display alongside their usernames. Usually, there’s a leader and a few deputies to keep things organized. Clans often have their own set of rules and requirements, such as age limits or a certain number of hours you’ll need to be online, as well as specific days for game nights.

Why Become A Part Of Fortnite Clan?

People want to get into a Fortnite clan for all sorts of reasons! For some, it’s all about connecting with others who share their love for the game and finding friends to team up with. For others, the thrill is in the competition — they want to be part of a clan that helps them improve their skills and get better at Fortnite through tournaments. Clans provide opportunities for exciting raids, quicker resource farming, etc. Plus, it’s a great way to hang out with friends and enjoy a social experience!

Things To Consider When Choosing The Right Clan For You

Before you learn how to join a Fortnite clan, it would be helpful to understand what you’re hoping to gain from the experience and how much time you’re willing to invest. Being part of a clan often means committing your time and energy. For some clans, it can feel like a second job, especially if they’re really focused on growing their ranks. So, here are a few friendly reminders to think about before joining a clan or starting your own:

  • The main focus of the clan and the atmosphere in it – is it about casual gameplay or with a competitive component?
  • Do you want to join a large Fortnite clan with many players or a more local and cozy one?
  • What age group do you want to get into?

Knowing the answers to these questions will make it easier for you to find a clan that suits you.

How To Join A Fortnite Clan?

If you have already decided to join a Fortnite clan, there are several options for finding a suitable community.

  • You can also search for a clan in Discord or in the Fortnite subreddit.
  • Another way is to register in the GameTree application and start searching for like-minded people there.
  • There are also other dedicated websites with lists of top clans.

So, how to get into the Fortnite clan you’ve chosen? You either just enter it with a code (if it’s open for everyone) or reach out to the clan leader or their deputies. They’ll usually ask for basic info like your name, game level, and reasons for joining. Popular clans might want to chat first, asking about your free time, willingness for long raids, and strategy approach. Based on this conversation, you’ll either get invited to join or be turned down.

How To Make A Fortnite Clan Step-by Step?

If you have been rejected or have not found a suitable clan to join, you can always create your own one. Here’s how to make a Fortnite clan and gather like-minded people in one place.

1. Choose A Clan Name And Create A Logo

First off, you’ll want to come up with a cool clan name, logo, and tag. They should all fit together and really show what your clan is about while standing out. Let’s be real: the clan branding totally affects first impressions.

2. Establish Clan Rules And Requirements

Figure out the vibe and main focus of your clan, and set up some rules and requirements for how it’ll run. You can share this as a pinned message in a chat or have a dedicated section on a website — it’s up to you!

3. Set Up Communication Channels

Pick the communication channels so everyone can catch up on changes, plan clan tournaments, and chat. Options like Discord, social media, and the built-in chats in GameTree can all come in handy.

4. Recruit Members

Now you know how to make a Fortnite clan, but how will you fill it with members? You can look pretty much anywhere online! Check out social media, messaging apps, Reddit, forums, and themed parties. It really comes down to your unique ideas and your people skills. When you’re bringing in new players, remember how matchmaking works in Fortnite and have a recruitment strategy. You probably don’t want super pros joining a clan of newbies, right?

5. Organize Regular Practice And Events

Regularly organize events, tournaments, and meetings and set the team practice schedule. Otherwise, people may think the clan is inactive and seek another one.

6. Develop Strategies And Foster Community

To get everyone in the clan moving in the same direction and to keep things smooth, it’s a good idea to come up with a clan development plan. Figure out how often you’ll play together and hold events, and decide on how you’ll make decisions as a group. Think about organizational stuff: how often you’ll play together, when you’ll hold events and how you will make decisions as a group. Basically, if you’re thinking about how to start a Fortnite clan, you should understand that by doing this, you’re stepping into the whole game of managing people!

7. Grow Your Clan

Just knowing how to make a Fortnite clan and getting people together isn’t enough; community engagement is crucial. It’s not just about training and gaming sessions but also about how to keep everyone entertained and connected by a common goal. If you’re not sure where to start, how about throwing a LAN party to play Fortnite on split-screen with your clan members?

Note:

Also, keep in mind that some folks might leave, which is totally normal. To keep things fresh, make sure to attract new members by having a strong social media presence.

Final Thoughts

If you’re exploring the pros and cons for making a clan in Fortnite or joining one, you should know that it isn’t as easy as it sounds — it’s kind of like having a second job in terms of time and effort. That said, it can also be a really fun experience that helps you meet new people and gain some solid management skills. I’ve made a bunch of great friends through games and clan activities. Being a deputy in a friend’s clan taught me a lot and gave me valuable experience. It’s like a little school of life, and I totally recommend jumping into clan activities or even leading a clan yourself!

About Fortnite And Its Popularity

Fortnite was originally a sandbox game and an open-world survival simulator. But everything changed when PUBG was launched, and the battle royale genre became incredibly popular. Epic Games quickly released their own version of the battle royale and added a unique feature – building mechanics. This helped Fortnite to become not only incredibly popular but also a global cultural phenomenon.

In addition to regular content updates, Fortnite constantly collaborates with famous brands and even holds virtual concerts with famous performers right inside the game. In this way, Fortnite constantly attracts a new audience, which might struggle with getting used to the game at first. So, if you have just entered the world of Fortnite, you will find these Fortnite beginner tips useful.

How To Get Better At Fortnite in 2024: Tips and Tricks

Since Fortnite has skill-based matchmaking, you’re matched with players of approximately the same rank as yours or play with bots. To progress, you need to win often, which is not that easy, especially when you play against folks of the same level as you are, and the matches are quite equal. Nevertheless, I’ve prepared some tips on how to get better at Fortnite. They are all based on my own experience, as well as on the community feedback from Reddit and GameTree.

Know The Map

Mastering the map is a game-changer. Knowing the popular landing and spawning spots for good loot, the main battle zones, and the best places to lie low and wait for the enemy gives you a strategic edge. Understanding the main landmarks on the map is crucial for planning your movement. Additionally you can try playing Fortnite XP maps to level up faster, if that’s your aim.

Learn To Stay Cool Under Pressure

How to be good at Fortnite? Stay cool under pressure! Everything is simple: you will make more mistakes if you are nervous or angry. Learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others, stay positive, and stay focused. Doing so and remembering that it’s just a game will help you move up the ranks in Fortnite faster.

Listen Carefully

Listen carefully to what is happening around you – pay attention to gunshots, footsteps, and other loud sounds. You must be aware of the enemy’s location and possible presence nearby, as well as what they may be doing at the moment.

Balance Your Weapons

Many beginners who wonder how to get good at Fortnite make the same mistake: they pick only one weapon in all matches. Instead, choose weapons for different situations. You will need sniper rifles for long-range combat, while SMGs and shotguns are great for close combat.

Get Good At Building

According to Reddit users’ advice, one of Fortnite’s most important skills to get better at Fortnite is fast building. You need to learn how to quickly build structures for protection or ramps for mobility and master advanced building techniques, such as double ramps, 90-degree turns, etc.

Work Well With Your Team

Most Fortnite fans that play in Duos or Squads and wonder how to get good at Fortnite quickly understand that communication is key. A team of players that coordinate their actions and constantly report on the enemy’s actions will have a clear advantage over a squad of randoms. Find Fortnite players who are also interested in growing their rank, building a strategy, and developing together. Thanks to the split-screen option in Fortnite, you can also arrange a LAN party and play with friends locally.

Improve Your Aim

You can’t do without good aiming skills if you want to get good at Fortnite. You can know the map well and have the best building skills, but what’s the point if you can’t hit the enemy? Choose any custom training map available in Fortnite’s creative mode and visit it regularly to train your aiming.

Manage Your Health Wisely

Remember that when you get into the storm zone, your health will begin to decrease, and the shield will not provide additional protection. Always carry bandages and first aid kits; do not forget to share them with teammates when necessary.

Choose Smart Landing Spots

Some beginners seeking ways to get better at Fortnite choose the most popular landing spots. Still, it’s not always a smart idea, as there’s a high chance of dying before the match really starts. A better strategy is to land in less crowded spots, like small buildings or unmarked areas, away from the main crowded zones. If you do decide to jump to more popular spots, try to land on the roofs of buildings – there will be better loot, and you’ll have a better view of what’s happening nearby.

Fortnite landscape

Master The Storm

As the match progresses, the safe zone on the map will shrink, and when you find yourself in a storm, you will begin to lose your health. Keep an eye on the storm’s movement zone and the countdown timer. You should know how long it will take you to get to the next safe zone, especially if you find yourself in distant areas of the map.

Experiment With Different Playstyles

The best way to get better at Fortnite is to try different playstyles. Don’t stick to just one pattern! Try an aggressive approach to gameplay – purposefully train in the most popular places with the best loot. Then try playing more passively – avoiding unnecessary shootouts. Then, try a mix of styles. Over time, you will develop your own hybrid style and become more flexible. It’s true not only for this particular game but for all Fortnite-like games.

Learn From The Pros

Watching how professional players and top streamers play explained to me a lot about how to get better at Fortnite. I mastered the basic gameplay tactics and advanced techniques and began to understand the game better. Don’t be lazy; spend time thoughtfully studying how professional gamers play and then try to repeat it yourself.

Find A Perfect Team To Play Fortnite With At GameTree

Fortnite is totally about teamplay! If you don’t have a regular team or clan to play with, try the GameTree app. Its AI-based matchmaking algorithm picks gamers who have a similar rank, take on a particular role in the game, have a similar playstyle, are eager to start playing, and want to explore different ways on how to become better at Fortnite. In fact, we at GameTree consider many more factors to make your gaming experience the most enjoyable ever! Try it out and find your teammates and gaming friends to play video games together.

Final Thoughts

Under Fortnite’s apparent simplicity and cartoonishness lies a rather difficult time mastering the game, which has unique mechanics and a fast pace. It requires players to have good mechanical skills and the ability to quickly assess the situation and plan their actions. In this article, I have given some tips on how to get better in Fortnite, but perhaps the most important advice is not to rush. Dear Fortnite beginners, play, enjoy, find regular teammates, develop your own gaming style, and victories will not keep you waiting.

💡 Highlights

  • Fortnite has a ranked system that matches players of similar skill levels.
  • The system is divided into Fortnite ranks ranging from Bronze to Unreal.
  • Players start at the bottom of Fortnite ranked levels and rise through the ranks based on their performance.
  • Ranked mode is available in Battle Royale and Zero Build game modes.
  • The ultimate goal is to reach the Unreal rank, which unlocks all Fortnite tournaments.

No modern competitive game today can do without ranking and matchmaking systems, especially if it is an incredibly popular title with one of the largest user bases and regular eSports competitions. Fortnite not only offers different game modes but also a ranked system for those players who have a thirst for competition. I am exactly one of such players and have been playing this vibrant, intense, and exciting game for many years. So, let’s take a look at how the Fortnite ranks work.

Enjoying Fortnite?

Find like-minded gamers with GameTree and get better at Fortnite together!

What Is the Fortnite Ranked System Exactly?

Fortnite Ranked is a player matchmaking system that determines which lobby you are placed in and which players you will face. The Fortnite ranked mode is divided into numerous ranks, and each rank has its own levels. You will start from the very bottom, and as you achieve high results, you will rise through the ranked levels. Once you reach the highest rank, Unreal, all Fortnite tournaments will be available to you.

These are all Fortnite ranks in order:

  • Bronze (I, II, III)
  • Silver (I, II, III)
  • Gold (I, II, III)
  • Platinum (I, II, III)
  • Diamond (I, II, III)
  • Elite
  • Champion
  • Unreal

How Do the Fortnite Ranked Levels Work?

The Fortnite ranked system compares your rank and that of other players so that the players in the lobby are of approximately the same level, and the matches are interesting and fair for everyone. A rank is assigned after several matches, and from that moment on, each game counts. During the matches, players compete for higher Fortnite ranks, which determine their skill level and the other players they compete against. In ranked mode, the amount of rank points you get after a match is decided by kills, placement, and the ranks of players involved in the match.

Placement

The better you place (finish) in a match, the more points you’ll get. Finishing in 1st place gets you the most points, while finishing 65th or lower gets you no points at all. The exact number of points changes each season, but generally, a Victory Royale (winning the match) is worth the most, followed by finishing in the Top 10 and so on. Try to avoid getting into too many fights early on and instead focus on staying alive until the end of the game.

Eliminations (Kills)

Each time you eliminate (kill) another player in a match, you also get points, though you get much fewer points for a kill than for a good placement. The fewer players are left in the game when you get a kill, the more points that kill is worth. Dropping into a hot area and going for many kills can be risky if you die early, so find the right balance between playing aggressively and passively if your goal is to rank up.

Match Type

The type of match also determines how many points you’re going to get. Big tournaments like the FNCS Invitational and the World Cup offer the highest point values. Cash Cups and Hype Nights are in the middle, and regular ranked matches are worth the least. Doing well in higher point matches is key to ranking up quickly.

By maximizing your points in all three areas – placement, eliminations, and match type – you’ll climb the ranks in no time. Keep practicing, watch how other top players strategize, and don’t get discouraged if you hit a plateau (get stuck). With time and hard work, you’ll reach Unreal Rank and beyond!

Supported Game Modes

The Fortnite ranked point system is available in two game modes: Battle Royale and Zero Build. Queues available for Battle Royale are Solo, Duo, and Squad. For Zero Build, only the Duo queue is available.

NOTE:

Keep in mind that Battle Royale and Zero Build ranks are separate.

Battle Royale Ranked Mode

The Fortnite ranked Battle Royale mode offers almost the same as the unranked mode. The PvP mode is suitable for players who love the competitive spirit of intense battles with advanced players, improving their skills and growing in the rankings table.

Zero Build Ranked Mode

This Fortnite ranked mode is a test of pure combat skills and teamwork, as it is a non-building mode and is a classic battle royale. Here, you will have to think on your feet, strategize, and rely on your partner to climb up the ranking ladder.

Fortnite Ranks Breakdown

The game uses a tiered ranking system where you progress from Bronze to Unreal. Ranks from Bronze to Diamond are divided into three levels, with Elite, Champion, and Unreal being the highest Fortnite ranks.

The Unreal rank is the ultimate goal, and once you reach it, you will not drop to lower ranks for the rest of the season, and your further successes will be entered into the global leaderboard. At the start of each season, your initial rank after one match is displayed in the Fortnite ranking system. This starting rank is based on players’ previous hidden performance results in the game. Seasoned and experienced players can easily start from Gold to Diamond, while for new and inexperienced players, the starting rank will most likely be Bronze or Silver.

Bronze

This is the very starting level of the Fortnite ranked point system for both beginners and inexperienced players – everyone starts here. Some matches may also have bots.

Silver

There are still beginners at this rank, but these are players who have already gotten used to the ranked matches and understand the basics of the game.

Gold

This rank includes experienced players, and competition increases sharply here since Gold is a transitional stage to high Fortnite ranks. Gold players have good skills and quick reactions; they focus on advanced construction methods.

Platinum

At this level of the Fortnite ranking system, there are players with a large number of victories. They understand the game well at this level and demonstrate strong team play and advanced tactics.

Diamond

The Diamond rank is assigned to advanced players with excellent knowledge of the map, tactics, and a deep understanding of the game and end-game strategies.

Elite

These are first-class players who have reached the top tier and will now compete with the best of the best. There will be strong, intense battles with high competition where there is no room for mistakes.

Champion

For this Fortnite rank, everything is true as for the previous one. There are the same intense battles with the best players who not only know everything about the game thoroughly but also apply it quickly and successfully.

Unreal

Top ranking and ultimate goal for all. These players have honed their skills to perfection, fought through countless battles, and won enough to be considered simply the best. Players who reach the Unreal level will see their names on the leaderboard.

What To Expect From Fortnite Ranking System

Fortnite ranked games are a place where players of their playing level fight for results in order to climb higher in the ranking ladder and get into the list of the best players. Below I will talk about some of the features you can expect from ranked games.

Ranked Matchmaking

When matchmaking players in Fortnite ranked games, some special features apply. For solo players, Fortnite gamers of the same rank as them or close to them are picked. For players who play in Duos or Squads, team rank is taken into account when matchmaking. This means that only the highest rank of the player on the team is analyzed during the matchmaking process.

Gameplay Differences

So, how will ranked games differ from unranked games in Fortnite? The gameplay here will be the same as in non-ranked matches. The only real difference is that players drop a minimum amount of materials when killed, and the farming speed is slightly increased in ranked games. You will also encounter players whose gaming skill level is approximately similar to yours. Therefore, for effective games, you will need to improve in order to surpass your level of play and move to the next Fortnite rank.

Fortnite Ranked Mode Rewards

One of the features of the Fortnite ranked mode is rewards – free cosmetics that you will receive for completing quests in the ranked mode. These tasks are similar to match quests but are exclusive to ranked games. You can also earn themed rewards that will match your placement in each rank when the new season begins.

To enable the Fortnite Ranks, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Launch Fortnite and select Battle Royale or Zero Build mode.

  2. In the Mode Selection option, select Ranked.

  3. Wait to enter the lobby (waiting time may vary depending on what rank you are at).

  4. That’s it; you’re in the game!

How To Rank Up Quickly?

I’ve been playing Fortnite since its release, and based on my experience, I would like to give some advice to those who want to get better at Fortnite and achieve quick results in Fortnite ranks.

  • In Fortnite, the reaction and speed of your reflexes are extremely important; you need to be able to not only shoot accurately but also build quickly.
  • In addition to reaction, it is also worth paying attention to tactics and strategy – study the map in detail, know the key landing zones and resource locations, and study the terrain to use it to your advantage.
  • Correct positioning is the key to success. Always position yourself above your opponent to gain an advantage. It is also important to be able to understand when to act aggressively and when, on the contrary, to be secretive or avoid combat.
  • You may have excellent reactions and knowledge of the map and the game, but all this will not work if you do not have well-coordinated teamplay and constant communication with your teammates. Finding skilled and engaged teammates or clan is key in this case, and GameTree is an excellent place for this.
  • One more piece of advice, though it’s pretty cliché: you simply should have more practice. The more you play, the better your skills become. It would also be a good idea to watch streams of professional players and try to repeat some of their tricks and tactics.

NOTE:

Your rank can go down as well. You lose points for finishing low or getting knocked out early. If you lose too many points, you might drop to a lower rank.

Pro Tips From Top-Ranked Players

Insights from professional Fortnite competitors

Top Fortnite professionals like Bugha, Clix, and Mongraal consistently emphasize fundamentals over flashy plays. They recommend:

  • Piece control mastery: Taking control of builds around opponents before engaging is crucial. Practice “boxing” opponents in creative mode daily.
  • Pre-editing is overrated: Most pros avoid pre-edits entirely, as they create more confusion than advantage.
  • Prioritize right-hand peeks: Always try to peek from the right side of structures, as this gives you a significant angle advantage due to the third-person camera placement.
  • Decision fatigue management: Top players like MrSavage and Benjyfishy take regular breaks after intense sessions to maintain mental clarity.
  • VOD review is non-negotiable: Professionals spend almost as much time reviewing gameplay as actually playing. Focus on reviewing deaths and endgame decisions.

Hardware and settings recommendations

Professionals optimize their setup for competitive advantages:

  • Frame rate over graphics: All competitive players use Performance Mode with textures on High, shadows off, and view distance on Medium to maximize frame rates.
  • Monitor selection: 240Hz monitors are now standard, with many pros moving to 360Hz for the smoothest possible gameplay.
  • Mouse settings: Most professionals use between 400-800 DPI with 6-12% in-game sensitivity. Lower is generally better for precision.
  • Keyboard positioning: Angled keyboard setup (approximately 45°) provides better ergonomics for extended building and editing sessions.
  • Audio setup: Professionals typically use open-back headphones for better spatial awareness and sound staging.
  • Keybinds optimization: Wall and ramp builds should be on mouse buttons or easily accessible keyboard keys. Editing should be on a single key (typically F or E) for faster response times.
  • Scroll wheel reset: Universally used by professionals as it’s significantly faster than double-edit resets.

When Do Fortnite Ranks Reset

Fortnite ranks reset at the beginning of each new competitive season, which typically aligns with the Battle Pass season schedule. Here’s what you need to know about rank resets:

Regular Reset Schedule

  • Ranks reset approximately every 3 months
  • Resets coincide with major chapter or season updates
  • All players return to a lower rank based on their previous season’s performance

Soft Reset System

Fortnite uses a soft reset system rather than a complete reset:

  • Players don’t start completely from scratch
  • Higher-ranked players are placed higher in the reset hierarchy
  • Champion and Unreal players typically reset to Gold or Platinum divisions
  • Lower-ranked players may only drop 1-2 full rank tiers

Current Season Information

For the current season (Chapter 5 Season 3), ranks reset with the season launch. The next reset will occur when Chapter 5 Season 4 begins

Players should check the official Fortnite competitive Twitter account or in-game news tab for precise reset timing for upcoming seasons.

Does Fortnite Have Split Screen?

Yes, Fortnite does have a split-screen option, but this mode will not be available on all platforms. The split screen feature is only available for PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Fortnite’s split screen mode has a history of brief outages. Recently, it was down from April 9-12, 2024, following a similar 5-day outage in November 2023. Epic Games typically prioritizes fixing this popular feature, so any future disruptions are likely to be short-lived. If you can’t access split screen, chances are it’ll be back up and running soon.

How To Do Split Screen On Fortnite

In order to play Fortnite split-screen on one PlayStation or Xbox console, you need to follow these simple steps:

  1. Start Fortnite.
  2. Go to the main lobby of the game on the main player’s account.
  3. Turn on the second controller, and when prompted, log in to the second player’s account.
  4. You will see a message at the bottom of the screen, and you need to press the corresponding Triangle button for PlayStation or A for Xbox to Log In and enable split-screen in Fortnite as a second player.
  5. Now both players will appear in the game lobby.
  6. Just join a game of duos or squads, and split-screen mode will turn on automatically.

NOTE:

There are a few important things you need to keep in mind when playing split the screen in Fortnite:

  • If one of the players disconnects or leaves the match, the split-screen session will end.
  • In split-screen mode, players cannot share inventory.
  • To play in split screen mode, both players must have the same language settings.
  • Both players also require controllers, meaning a split screen cannot be activated by connecting a mouse and keyboard to the console.
Fortnite split screen feature is available for players on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Which Modes Can Be Played With Split Screen?

Currently, two players on the same console, be it Xbox or PS4/5 in can only play Fortnite split screen in Duos and Squads modes in Battle Royale.

Thus, the feature is unavailable in Creative, Limited Time Modes, Save the World, Ranked, and Solo play.

Can You Play Split Screen on Fortnite on PC and Switch?

No, unfortunately, a split screen is not available on Nintendo Switch and PCs. The main reason for the mode’s unavailability on the Nintendo Switch is that the console isn’t powerful enough to run two versions of Fortnite on one device. So, if you want to know how to play Fortnite 2-player on Nintendo, I have to disappoint you. While most PCs are powerful enough to run multiple versions of Fortnite, Epic doesn’t have the ability to identify different users on PCs the way it can on consoles. Thus, PC players are also deprived of the option to play Fortnite in split-screen mode.

Fortnite Split Screen Mode Tips For Players

Playing Fortnite in the split-screen mode is so much fun! To make your experience even more beneficial, I would like to share some tips on how to get better in Fortnite local play.

  • Since in split screen mode, each player’s screen size will be halved, you will not be able to effectively monitor what is happening on your part of the screen and that of your friend, so teamwork and communication are extremely important.
  • Adjust the aspect ratio and resolution as you like and what best suits your screen. By default, your game screens will be displayed horizontally, but this can be changed to a vertical split in video options.
  • This is pretty obvious, but make sure both controllers are charged enough to avoid disconnecting in the middle of a match.

Final Thoughts

So, is Fortnite split screen? The answer is yes, but not for all platforms. Only PS and Xbox users can turn this mode on. Anyway, split screen is an excellent opportunity to expand your gaming experience in Fortnite and have a great time with a friend while sitting in front of the same screen. It’s so exciting that the developers from Epic Games have added this feature since, today, there are very few games that you can play together on the same console. All you need is a pair of controllers and some free time.

Why Has Fortnite Become So Popular?

Fortnite today is more than just a game but a real cultural phenomenon. Honestly, I don’t know a game better than Fortnite. The developers, Epic Games, took a niche on the wave of the nascent popularity of battle royales. The game was originally an open-world co-op survival simulator in which players had to work together to fend off zombie-like monsters. The game took off at a time when PUBG was gaining popularity on the market and, unlike it, did not have so many technical problems. And most importantly, it was free to play. To be honest, at one time, this is what attracted me, too.

But that’s not the only reason games similar to Fortnite have quickly gained popularity. This game featured stylized cartoon graphics, fast-paced combat, accessible system requirements for any hardware, and a unique construction feature. All this was then copied by other battle royale titles.

Also, constant updates, generous battle passes, thrilling collaborations with movies and other game franchises, and in-game concerts have made Fortnite one of the most popular games in its genre. I think it’s fantastic that inside Fortnite, I can play as Kratos from God of War, my friend can play as Loki from the Avengers, and together, we can find ourselves at a concert of a popular singer. Yes, right in one battle royale game. Can you imagine this?

12 Best Games Similar To Fortnite That Are Worth Your Attention

As cool as Fortnite is, sometimes you just want to try something new, don’t you? Below, I have collected 12 games like Fortnite that have their unique features and are worthy of your attention.

12. Totally Accurate Battlegrounds

Totally Accurate Battlegrounds is a parody of games like Fortnite.
  • Metacritic Rating: 65
  • Platforms: Windows
  • Price: Free-to-play

It is a battle royale game with ragdoll physics that is a parody of games like Fortnite. The gameplay is similar to other battle royales. Still, the distinctive feature is the local physics, thanks to which all the characters’ movements are exaggerated: limbs can stretch, and firearms have very strong recoil.

Another distinctive feature of this game compared to other battle royales is the ability to simultaneously use any two types of one-handed weapons. The fast pace of the game, the story, and the atmosphere of general madness are partly similar to the atmosphere of Fortnite. Of course, it won’t be able to replace Fortnite, but this game is not going to do that. What it will definitely be able to do is lift your spirits and entertain you for more than one evening.

11. Rogue Company

Rogue Company is perfect for those who are tired of battle royale but want a game just like Fortnite in terms of the atmosphere
  • Metacritic Rating: 75
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch
  • Price: Free-to-play

Rogue Company is a multiplayer third-person shooter featuring a variety of characters, each with their own abilities, equipment, and perks to choose from. The game is perfect for those who are tired of battle royale but want a game just like Fortnite in terms of the atmosphere and fast-paced, responsive gunplay.

This game offers challenging 4v4 and 6v6 modes and is similar to those found in Counter-Strike and Overwatch. In Demolition mode, we need to plant a bomb while playing as one team or prevent it if you are on the other side. In Extraction mode, we need to activate a specific terminal in the game world; there are no respawns and only one objective point for which both teams fight. Strikeout mode is the most original of all, where each team only has a limited number of shared respawns. The trick is that in this mode, there is one control point, holding which we deprive the enemy team of respawns.

10. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Fall Guys is a popular Fortnite-type game if you're looking for something with a similar atmosphere.
  • Metacritic Rating: 81
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch
  • Price: Free-to-play

Fall Guys is another popular Fortnite-type game if you’re looking for something with a similar atmosphere. This game is not a shooter like most battle royales, and that is what makes it stand out. Fall Guys is a platformer that meets a battle royale game.

Each match is divided into several rounds and involves up to 60 players. Players participate in mini-games in each round and must complete a specific task. These mini-games are varied; for example, you must get to the finish line earlier or stay on the level for a certain period, score the most goals, etc. Mini-games can be either individual or require team action from several players. The game continues until one participant remains in the final round.

9. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is a vampire-themed battle royale game
  • Metacritic Rating: 75
  • Platforms: Windows, PlayStation 5
  • Price: Free-to-play

This is a vampire-themed battle royale game based on the popular board game of the same name. In terms of dynamics and shooting, the game is similar to Fortnite, so it is ideal for those who want similar gameplay but without construction and in a darker and non-cartoon style.

Among the original features of this battle royale, I can name the presence of parkour and vertical gameplay. You can climb onto the roofs of buildings or go down into the subway. Unsuspecting passers-by walk along the streets at night and may well turn out to be useful to us as a source of health replenishment or harmful since they can notice you and raise the alarm. In this case, you will appear on the map and become an easy target for other players.

8. Realm Royale Reforged

Realm Royale Reforged is a lot like Fortnite and stands out from its competitors due to the presence of a fantasy setting
  • Metacritic Rating: 65
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch
  • Price: Free-to-play

This is a battle royale set in the universe of the fantasy MOBA shooter Paladins. The game is a classic battle royale and offers single-player or co-op battles with a third-person view for up to 100 players. Stylistically, the game is like Fortnite and stands out from its competitors due to the presence of a fantasy setting, classes, the ability to craft weapons, and a huge map.

7. Hunt: Showdown

Hunt: Showdown is a shooting Fortnite-like game
  • Metacritic Rating: 81
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
  • Price: $23

Hunt: Showdown is a first-person PvP shooter about monster hunting, combining dark action and survival elements. In this shooting Fortnite-like game, we take on the role of a hunter, fulfilling contracts to kill monsters. The hunter gains passive skills that provide certain bonuses as the character develops. At the same time, the deceased fighter disappears from the game forever; the player loses all weapons, perks, and half of the experience gained for this mission.

An important point of this Fortnite-like game is the confrontation with other players, whose characters are also fighting to fulfill the contract. In addition to its atmosphere and realistic graphics, the game gives a new look at the concept of royal battles, focusing not on fighting to the end but on survival and escape.

6. The Eliminator (Forza Horizon 4 And 5)

The Eliminator is a game mode in the world of Forza Horizon
  • Metacritic Rating: 92
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox
  • Price: $59.99

The Eliminator is a game mode in the world of Forza Horizon and one of the most unique battle royales in which there is no shooting. Instead, there are cars. 72 cars take part in the battle, and only one survives at the end. Your goal is to destroy other cars, either by trapping them outside the playing area or by beating them in races.

5. Roblox

Roblox is a building game like Fortnite.
  • Metacritic Rating: 48
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
  • Price: Free-to-play

Roblox is a building game like Fortnite. It is a sandbox game and a unique platform for creating games and your own mods, as well as selling and buying them. The game is perfect for those who enjoy building in Fortnite Creative. In short, you can do whatever you want in this game. It doesn’t matter if you just want to build something or you like to play various mods and games – there is nothing in the game that stops you from being creative.

4. Call Of Duty: Warzone 2.0

Call Of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is fast-paced gunplay similar to games like Fortnite
  • Metacritic Rating: 79
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox, PlayStation
  • Price: Free-to-play

The creators of Call of Duty have released their own version of the battle royale, which is just as popular as the main games in the series. If you love fast-paced gunplay in games like Fortnite, you’ll love Warzone. It combines the traditional elements of Call of Duty with unique game mechanics. Up to 150 players participate in the royal battle. If you lose, you have the chance to get back into the match by fighting 1v1 players in a small cage match. Warzone also features full cross-play, so for me, it’s easy to play with my GameTree friends who use different platforms.

3. PUBG: Battlegrounds

PUBG is the game that started the popularity of the battle royale genre and is very much like Fortnite
  • Metacritic Rating: 86
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox One, PlayStation 4
  • Price: Free-to-play

PUBG is the game that started the popularity of the battle royale genre. PUBG was released before Fortnite, had no competitors at launch, and was extremely popular. Technical problems, higher system requirements, and a paid distribution model at the start were the reasons why PUBG was surpassed by Fortnite. However, PUBG is still original and will appeal to fans of realistic shooter games and more measured tactical gameplay. I mean, hiding in the bushes, waiting for the right moment, etc., since Fortnite-like games in the battle royale genre are mainly focused on fast-paced gunplay.

2. Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2 is another game that is like Fortnite.
  • Metacritic Rating: 79
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox, PlayStation
  • Price: Free-to-play

This is another game that is like Fortnite. Overwatch 2 is a heroic team-based first-person shooter in which players are divided into two teams and select heroes with unique abilities from an impressive pool available. They participate in matches consisting of such dynamic PvP modes as “Escort,” “Control,” and “Capture the Flag.” This new Fortnite-like game will appeal to players who enjoy team play and fast-paced combat, as well as the game’s overall arcade feel and bright cartoon style.

Overwatch features different classes: tanks, damage, and support characters. Creating teams from different combinations of heroes is the basis of the strategy for winning the match. For this reason, I like to use the Overwatch LFG feature on GameTree so that I can immediately find like-minded people with specific ultimates.

1. Apex Legends

Apex Legends is one of the most versatile and popular battle royale games like Fortnite.
  • Metacritic Rating: 89
  • Platforms: Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch
  • Price: Free-to-play

Apex Legends is one of the most versatile and popular battle royale games, with various legends to choose from. Those who love games like Fortnite, should definitely try this title and find Apex teammates to enjoy the co-op gameplay to the fullest.

This battle royale brings together all the best – the fast pace of the game, like in Fortnite, a huge number of different heroes with unique abilities like in Overwatch, constant map updates, and the addition of various skins. All this makes Apex Legends a relevant and very interesting Fortnite alternative.

Final Thoughts

In this article, I have listed the best games that you can play if you like Fortnite. All of the games on this list are definitely not Fortnite rip-offs, but they do have at least a few similarities to Fortnite in gameplay or atmosphere. The most important thing is that each game, in one form or another, is original. For example, there are not so many games like Fortnite with building mechanics – the only such alternative is Roblox. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt has a dark, gothic setting, and the Eliminator mode in Forza Horizon is about cars, not humans, etc.

Anyway, these titles are not Fortnite copies or killers but have their own interesting and unique gameplay. Each of these games is a favorite of mine, and I invite you to share the gaming experience with me. See you in the GameTree chats!

💡 Highlights

  • Fortnite has a system called Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) that matches players with similar skill levels for fair and competitive matches.
  • SBMM in Fortnite considers factors like win-loss records, kill-death ratios, and other performance metrics to create balanced teams.
  • The system also uses bots in matches with low-skilled players to ensure a good gaming experience for all players.
  • Players cannot turn off SBMM in Fortnite, and changing regions can affect matchmaking by connecting players with weaker or stronger opponents.
  • Suggestions to improve SBMM include creating separate lobbies for new players, leaving SBMM for rated modes, and implementing options to enable or disable SBMM based on player preference.

Fortnite is an extremely popular online game thanks to the battle royale mode, which Epic Games introduced at the peak of the popularity of PUBG and other battle royale games, giving Fortnite and similar games a new raise in prosperity. Before this, Fortnite was purely about survival against zombies with elements of construction. Today, Fortnite features not only collaborations with musicians and various brands, but also elements of construction in the battle royale mode and a wide variety of different modes – from official modifications to custom maps. However, many players ask, “How does Fortnite matchmaking work?”. In this article, I will try to give a comprehensive answer to this question and explain why SBMM has faced problems and criticism.

Long story short, yes, Fortnite does have skill-based matchmaking, which means that players are matched with others of similar skill levels to ensure competitive and enjoyable matches. This system uses various factors, including win-loss records, kill-death ratios, and other performance metrics to create balanced teams.

Now let’s dive into the topic, and explore all the aspects of Fortnite matchmaking.

Does Fortnite Have Skill Based Matchmaking?

Yes, Fortnite is one of the few games that features a Skill-Based Matchmaking system, or SBMM for short. This system was added in 2019. The main idea of Fornite matchmaking is for players to compete with other players of approximately the same skill level.

How Does Fortnite Matchmaking Work?

Fortnite matchmaking system gathers a combination of metrics to determine a player’s skill level and uses this information to match players with similar skill levels. In short, Fortnite skill-based matchmaking serves as a tool to make games more fair and interesting for all players. So here’s a breakdown of what Fortnite SBMM algorithm takes into account, when matching you with other players:

  1. Skill Evaluation: The system assesses your skill level based on factors like wins, losses, and eliminations.
  2. Player Grouping: Players are grouped with others of similar skill levels to ensure fair and enjoyable matches.
  3. Cross-Mode Consistency: SBMM applies across all game modes, including solo, duo, and squad play.
  4. Dynamic Adjustment: As your skills improve or change, the matchmaking adapts to maintain challenge and fairness.
  5. Bot Integration: For newer or less skilled players, AI-controlled bots may be added to matches to ensure sufficient opponents.
  6. Cross-Platform Balancing: The system attempts to balance matches between players on different devices (consoles, PCs) despite varying capabilities.
  7. Regional Selection: Players can choose their matchmaking region to optimize connection speeds.

Functionality Of The Feature

The skilled-based Fortnite matchmaking works in single-player mode and in teams of 2 players (Duos) and 3 players (Trios). The statistics that the system uses also include player’s wins and losses. Since the developers added bots to the game along with the updated matchmaking system, bots will also be encountered in matches with low-skilled players. When I just started playing Fortnite, half of my lobby was made up of bots.

Yet, as my experience increased, I had fewer bots in the lobby and more players of my level. When matchmaking for Duos and Trios teams, the system focuses on the player with the lowest skill on the team.

Fortnite Skill-Based Matchmaking Controversy And Backlash

In recent years, the SBMM system has been criticized by players. Both casual and multiplayer games lost popularity among fans after the implementation of this system. It’s not that bad, but it clearly needs improvement or at least not to be used in 100% of cases. Does Fortnite have SBMM problems? Yes, for sure! There are quite a few you should be aware of.

  • One of the biggest issues with skill-based matchmaking is that it tends to take the element of randomness out of the gaming experience. If players constantly encounter opponents of the same skill level, they must always put in more effort and show a high level of play in order to win. In this case, the fun that was there before, when you could meet a player of a lower level who was easy to defeat, disappears. Now, everyone plays at the same level, and each match resembles the final of an eSports event. And this is because of the way the Fortnite lobbies work.
  • The second popular complaint stems from the first and is that the game’s broadcasts are becoming less interesting. The element of randomness disappears, and skilled streamers meet skilled players and need to do their best. All broadcasts become about trying hard, like in eSports, and almost exclude the options of randomness, humor, and fun.
  • There is also forced crossplay in the game, and this is what I personally dislike the most. The problem is not that I play on a console, and the player on a PC with a keyboard and mouse has an advantage, but in unequal conditions. This includes input lag on different platforms. Players can get up to 240 FPS in the game on PC , while on consoles, players are limited to 60 FPS. A player with 240 FPS will be faster to spot, aim, and shoot than a player with 60 FPS. On a PC, you can also change the graphics settings and turn off shadows for better visibility, but on consoles, this cannot be done (good for us!). These are not small advantages but huge differences, and they affect the Fortnite lobbies which are skill-based.

The developers present this option as an innovation. In theory, it is partly true since the boundary between devices is erased – you and your friends play from different devices in the same game. The speed of searching for players is higher since you have a common lobby. However, structurally different gaming devices have both their pros and cons, and if everyone plays in the same lobby, then some will always have an advantage over others at the start. That’s why I don’t like this crossplay feature and always turn it off, even if it means I have to wait longer for the matchmaking system to find players in the lobby. And, I am not the only one, Reddit community is quite frustrated with the mentioned issues as well.

I hope this section with Fortnite SBMM explained, along with its minuses, didn’t make you bored. But, honestly, I, as a fan of Fortnite, am disappointed with the game development and this particular system.

Can You Turn Off Fortnite SBMM?

No, there is no way to disable the skill-based Fortnite matchmaking. The game uses only this matchmaking system. When selecting players in the lobby, the system takes into account K/D and win percentage. The better you perform over multiple matches of Fortnite, the higher the Fortnite SBMM system will rank you and match players accordingly. Therefore, if you want to get into the bot lobbies, you just need to play worse, die a lot, or be AFK. And if you’re willing to improve your game – we’ve compiled an article on Fortnite tips and tricks that will help you get better in game.

Changing Fortnite Matchmaking Region

If you are not happy with the way the system matches you with other players or want to play with weaker or stronger players, you can try changing your region for better Fortnite matchmaking. To do this, you need to follow this simple guide I’ve prepared for you:

  1. Go to the main menu.

  2. Click the Settings icon.

  3. Open the Game tab by clicking the gear icon.

  4. Under the Region header, find the Matchmaking Region section, then click the arrow to set a new region. You have several choices:

Auto. The system selects the region with the best ping.
Other regions.  You’ll see the ping to the servers in milliseconds in the selected region.

  5. Click Apply.

Ideas On How To Fix The Mechanic

So, does Fortnite have skill-based matchmaking? The answer is yes, but it faced criticism and is no fun right now. In my opinion, there are  several options to fix it:

  • To give new players a separate lobby, where there will be bots and other newbies.
  • To leave SBMM only for rating modes and Arena, where players go to improve their skills, and remove it for regular modes or make it possible to turn it off at will.

Ideally, it would be great to implement all options – selection of regular modes without SMBB, selection of the same modes with SMBB enabled, and ranked games with the SMBB system enabled. I think this arrangement would be the best option for both new and old players.
